Tom Cruise seems to be on the back foot in Hollywood right now as his upcoming movie is bound to collide with Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus Oppenheimer. With reservations for IMAX seats, it seems that Cruise wants the premium theaters for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One instead of the atomic bomb movie.
As per speculated reports, the actor-producer has been trying to strike up deals with insiders to get the IMAX theater privileges and remove Nolan’s Oppenheimer from the premium screens. Although it has not been confirmed, there are conflicting reports and backstabbing from both sides to hear of!
Tom Cruise Will Not Get IMAX Theaters Despite Saving Hollywood
The actor was recently praised for essentially “saving Hollywood’s a**” by starring in Top Gun: Maverick back in May 2022. The film was so well received by the audience that it created a buzz for the theater experience once again after quite a long time.
With the upcoming magnum opus Oppenheimer entirely shot in IMAX format, Christopher Nolan has already had a deal that his movie will be shown in all the IMAX theaters across North America for three weeks. Things would not be as simple in Hollywood as they look since Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is releasing exactly 10 days prior to the launch of Oppenheimer.
As per reports by Puck, the Top Gun actor also wants the IMAX theaters for his movie and wants to challenge Nolan with his movie. In the speculated reports, it is stated that Tom Cruise allegedly called rival studios to get his movie in the Premium Large Format (PLF) available for a longer time so that Oppenheimer may get a shorter duration of the IMAX theaters.
With Tom Cruise in efforts to pursue the PLFs, a representative of IMAX revealed to IndieWire that they aim to remain loyal to Christopher Nolan.
Tom Cruise’s Efforts May Not Bear Fruit This Time!
With Nolan’s deal already done with IMAX, the director’s plan is to release Oppenheimer in all the IMAX theaters across North America for three weeks after its release. With Tom Cruise pursuing the PLFs aggressively, an IMAX representative apparently had a chat with IndieWire.
As per the reports, the representative stated that they are fully committed to the Oppenheimer plan. With 1550 IMAX theaters at the ready and a total of 1700 venues, it seems that Tom Cruise’s efforts might not be worth it this time. Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is set for a release date of 12th July 2023 while Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is slated for a release date of 21st July 2023 in theaters across the U.S.
