Ana de Armas is all set to join the highly popular John Wick franchise. The Blonde fame will play the role of Rooney in the first spin-off, Ballerina, set in the world of assassins and High Table. The movie is slated to be a prequel to the latest Keanu Reeves movie and will also feature him in a special appearance.
Ballerina will not only feature John Wick in a special appearance but a large-scale action sequence featuring the two is also expected. Speaking on it, Ana de Armas revealed that it is really a tiresome process doing action with the legendary Keanu Reeves. She added that every part of her body hurt after doing those scenes.
Ana de Armas shares her experience of working with Keanu Reeves
Earlier this year in January, when Ana de Armas was seen in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she revealed her experience of working with the Matrix actor. According to the Cuban actress, it is not everybody’s cup of tea to work with Keanu Reeves, who is primarily known for his action set pieces, mainly in the John Wick franchise.
The 35-year-old actress stated to Fallon that it was a completely new experience for her to work in Ballerina. Although she was spotted under a similar role in the James Bond flick No Time to Die, the star said that the upcoming movie is a full upgrade of that 15 minutes of Bond sequence.
“I’m in pain. You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised. Bond was fifteen minutes. This is a whole movie, another level.”
Ana de Armas also praised her Knock Knock co-actor by calling him the best.
“But the other day, Keanu and I were rehearsing our very difficult stunt scene, and this man is just rolling and throwing me and doing crazy stunts. And I’m like — I can’t complain anymore. Because he is doing it! He truly is the best.”
The Blade Runner 2049 actress was also recently spotted in an action romantic flick titled Ghosted alongside Chris Evans. The movie, despite receiving widespread viewership, couldn’t impress many. But coming from a franchise like John Wick, hopes will be high for Ballerina.
What should we expect from Ballerina?
Ballerina will feature the story of Rooney who was last seen in John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum. In that movie, the role was played by American ballet dancer Unity Phelan. Occurring between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the movie will start a series of spin-offs to extend the universe of the assassins. Besides Ballerina, a mini-series titled The Continental is also set to release this year, which will be a prequel focusing on how Winston Scott and The Continental Hotel came to power.
The movie will also feature several John Wick characters like Ian McShane’s Winston Scott, Anjelica Huston as The Director, and Lance Reddick in his final screen appearance as the concierge. The Underworld franchise mastermind Len Wiseman is sitting on the director’s chair. The movie will show the ballerina-assassin Rooney played by Ana de Armas going on a deadly search to find out the ones who killed her family.
Ballerina is slated to release on June 7, 2024.
