Tom Cruise has his money on The Flash reviving the long-time dormant superhero franchise. Who knew the Hollywood icon would be a DC buff?
After Top Gun: Maverick broke significant box-office records and rescued what otherwise seemed to be a dying theatre industry, Cruise believes the upcoming DCU film will be the same beacon of light for superhero films.
As per new sources, the renowned actor and producer recently screened the Ezra Miller-led movie and loved it so much that he dialed the director to congratulate him on making the masterpiece that is The Flash.
Tom Cruise Was Awestruck After Seeing The Flash
It looks like Andy Muschietti’s film has one of the world’s highest-paid actors and award-winning stars in a chokehold. In a good way, of course.
Sources claim that when Tom Cruise met David Zaslav towards the end of February, the Warner Bros. Discovery CEO had brought up The Flash, claiming it to be a brilliant movie. Naturally curious and eager to find out for himself, the Top Gun 2 star then asked Zaslav to see it, after which, Cruise was sent a copy of the film at his home in Beverly Hills.
Once the private screening ended, Cruise handed the copy back to the Warner employee who’d brought it, who then delivered it back to the studio. This stringent procedure was carried out owing to the fact that the superhero-adventure film is still a few months away from its official release.
After watching the film, The Mission: Impossible – Fallout star was rendered so amazed that he immediately called Muschietti and gave a glowing review of The Flash to him. Insiders state that Cruise, 60, sang high praise of the film, claiming that it is “everything you want in a movie” and exactly “the kind of movie we need now.”
Will The Flash Be As Grand A Hit As Top Gun 2 Was?
Joseph Kosinki’s Top Gun: Maverick was a critical and commercial victory all over the world and became the highest-grossing project in Cruise’s career. And from what Cruise’s alleged reaction to The Flash was, it certainly seems that he believes the movie will have a similar effect on the film industry as his own $1.49 billion movie did last year.
Helmed by Argentine filmmaker Andy Muschietti, The Flash stars Ezra Miller as the superhero of the same name, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batmen, Kiersey Clemons’ Iris West, and Michael Shannon as General Zod.
Distributed by WBD, the movie set a budget of about $200 million, which means that The Flash would need to gross $400 million just to break even. But there’s little or no doubt that the film will easily surpass that mark and earn a booming profit at the box office. All that’s left now is to wait and see just how right Tom Cruise is going to be about the movie.
The Flash hits cinemas on June 16, 2023.
