Apart from acting, Jared Leto is also fond of rock climbing. The actor has been doing it for quite some time and also came very close to death in 2020. The actor’s interest in the sport sparked in the mid-2010s when he was working on his documentary, Great Wide Open.
The actor has made some good friends who love the sport just like him, including professional rock climber Alex Honnold. In March 2020, Leto accidentally slipped while he was climbing Red Rock with Honnold. The actor thought that he will die, however, he was dangling in the air. The rope attached to him was the only thing that saved him from falling 600 ft below.

Actor Jared Leto is also an experienced rock climber apart from being a remarkable actor. However, you are still bound to make mistakes no matter how experienced you are. Leto was climbing Red Rock in Nevada in March 2020 with his good friend and professional rock climber, Alex Honnold. Suddenly, the actor slipped and was dangling 600 ft in the air. He explained in his Instagram post,
“Not to sound dramatic, but this is the day I nearly died. Took a pretty good fall climbing with @alexhonnold at Red Rock. Looked up and within seconds the rope was being cut by the rock while I dangled some 600 ft in the air. I remember looking down at the ground below.”
Thankfully, the actor was fine thanks to the safety arrangements. The actor started rock climbing roughly 8 years ago, so in 2020, he had quite a few years’ worth of experience but he still slipped.
The incident had a deep impact on Jared Leto
The incident made Leto realize that he is not really scared of death. In fact, the actor accepted his fate when he hanging only by a rope 600 ft in the air. He explained in his latest interview with Men’s Health,
“It was like an acceptance, and a little bit of sadness. It wasn’t even fear. It was like, ‘Ah, not now.'”
The actor first started rock climbing when he was working on his documentary, Great Wide Open (2016). With the right equipment and experienced mates, rock climbing can be a fun sport.
