From 2012-2014, Andrew Garfield took the responsibility to fight off villains by portraying the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the franchise. While his acting was much acclaimed in the Amazing Spider-Man reboot, many criticized the film for its plot settings including Spider-Man’s old nemesis, The Green Goblin.
Willem Dafoe portrayed the role of Norman Osborn, aka The Green Goblin in the 2002’s Spider-Man. Given his old experience working in the film, he shared his thoughts in a 2013 interview with Total Film via Guardian regarding the plot of the 2012 film.
He stated,
“I saw a trailer for the first ‘Spider-Man’ reboot and I thought, ‘This is crazy! It’s not shot for shot, but it’s the same story.”
He continued,
“I thought, ‘This is sort of a cynical approach to making money!'”
Even though the film faced quite a criticism for its plot elements, it didn’t much affect the movie as the film grossed $758 million worldwide and became a box-office success.

In an old interview with Variety, the Green Goblin actor opened up about how he ended up in MCU. For the unversed, the actor already had a strong portfolio back then however he was interested in the idea which came out at the time.
“Initially, what attracted me to it was Sam Raimi and just this fairly new idea of making a film out of these comic book characters.”
While his character came to an end in 2007 with a cameo appearance, he reprised his role in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man version in the 2021 film, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
He was surprised when he learned about his comeback in the franchise.
“I thought I was finished. When they initially said, ‘Would you like to reprise this role?’ I thought, ‘Really? How does that happen?’ I was kind of stupid about it.”
After walking through the entire concept, he eventually signed for it. Talking with Inverse, he shared about feeling contended as he played “a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both.”
2021’s No Way Home was a critical and commercial success that featured an ensemble cast with the film grossing over $1.9 billion worldwide. It is now available on Disney+ Hotstar.
