Unlike other highly acclaimed directors, Guillermo del Toro has been one of the few directors who have admired the superhero genre and the films under it. And after sharing his reaction to the upcoming film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, he has now praised the film for taking its revolutionary animation to new levels. Spider-Man: Into Spider-Verse has not just been one of the best Spider-Man movies, it has also set the standards for animation films.
Its revolutionary animation techniques won the film a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. And with the release of new stills from the upcoming sequel, the Oscar-winning director has once again spoken highly of Across the Spider-Verse.
Guillermo del Toro Praises Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Empire Magazine recently released a new still from the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The still features Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen in a clash with other characters in a new dimension, Mumbattan, which was also seen in the official trailer of the film.
Soon after its release, Guillermo del Toro praised the much-anticipated sequel as he shared the image on Twitter. He praised the film for its creativity and the impact it has had on the animation industry. He said, “It’s clear in my heart that SPIDER-MAN’s all-star team will expand the revolution it started.” Earlier Guillermo del Toro shared his reaction to the trailer of the 2023 film. He tweeted, “Wow, wow, wow!” as he shared the trailer of the film.
The creators worked with computer animation and the traditional hand-drawn comic book technique on the film and the revolutionary animation techniques won it Best Animated Feature at the 2019 Academy Awards. And the sequel of the 2018 film is also expected to set new standards for animation.
The recently released stills from the upcoming sequel give a look at what fans can expect from the upcoming animated film. The film is set to release in June this year and will be the first film in the two-part sequel to the 2018 film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Guillermo Del Toro Wins the Oscar For Pinocchio
Guillermo del Toro’s 2022 film Pinocchio has won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 95th Academy Awards. Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson took the stage at the 2023 Oscars to present the award and named Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio as the Best Animation feature of 2022.
And as the Pacific Rim director accepted the award, he once again spoke up to take the animation to the next level. He said, “Animation is cinema, it is not a genre and ready to be taken to the next level.” He also urged everyone to keep the genre in conversation and dedicated his award to his wife, kids, and parents.
This win has also made him the first person to win an Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Animated Feature. The director won Best Director and Best Picture for the 2017 romantic fantasy film, The Shape of Water.
