Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of the Terminator in the titular franchise is among the most recognizable roles that propelled him to prominence. The actor recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he won’t be appearing in any further movies in the franchise. Schwarzenegger made it clear that there will be more Terminator projects, but he will not be involved.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor, who has appeared in all Terminator movies with the exception of 2009’s Terminator Salvation, which used CGI to show his facial similarities, said that he was “done” with the franchise.
The actor will Not be Back for Future Projects
Fans responded enthusiastically to the FUBAR actor’s return to the Terminator franchise in each installment, firmly establishing his position as the series’ face. However, it appears that he won’t be reprising that role after last appearing in Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019.
“The franchise is not done. I’m done,” Arnold Schwarzenegger told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to ‘The Terminator.’ Someone has to come up with a great idea.”
He continued,
“‘The Terminator’ was largely responsible for my success, so I always would look at it very fondly. The first three movies were great. Number four [‘Salvation’] I was not in because I was governor. Then five [‘Genisys’] and six [‘Dark Fate’] didn’t close the deal as far as I’m concerned. We knew that ahead of time because they were just not well-written.”
Schwarzenegger was not part of the fourth movie Terminator: Salvation. The actor returned to the franchise after his time as Governor of California in 2015’s Terminator Genisys.
Critics were Favorable of the Rise of the Machines
The first film in which James Cameron was not a screenwriter or director was Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. The movie was a financial hit, bringing in $433 million at the global box office, securing the franchise’s future.
Audiences did not receive the fifth and sixth installments of the franchise, Terminator: Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate. Following a disastrous worldwide debut, Terminator: Dark Fate has earned $62 million domestically and $250 million worldwide, which was made with $185 million. The fifth installment in the series brought in $432 million worldwide.
Rise of the Machines was well received by critics. This one suggested that the Terminator brand still had a pulse even without James Cameron.
