Jennifer Lawrence had her big break with her first Oscar nomination for the 2010 film Winter’s Bone. The actress would then go on to gain worldwide recognition by starring in some of the most popular franchises, X-Men and The Hunger Games. Although she lost her first Oscar nomination to Natalie Portman, the Passengers star later won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook, leading her to land more prominent roles.
However, it wasn’t the same before she received her first Oscar nomination. During her appearance on Bill Simmons’ podcast The Rewatchables, the X-Men star shared that she was immediately rejected when she auditioned for the popular romantic fantasy franchise Twilight.
Jennifer Lawrence Was Rejected During Her Twilight Audition
Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as the leads, Twilight became highly popular among its audience with the release of the 2008 movie. Based on the book series of the same name, the franchise went on to gross over $3.3 billion at the box office.
Although no one had the idea that it would become this massive, many aspiring actors and actresses auditioned for the 2008 film, including Jennifer Lawrence. However, it was not a very pleasant experience for The Hunger Games actress, who was also still a beginner in the industry.
During her appearance on The Rewatchables podcast, Lawrence shared that she was rejected “immediately” during her audition. “I auditioned for Twilight [and] they turned me down immediately. [Laughs] I didn’t even get a callback,” she shared.
The Oscar-winning actress earlier reflected on her audition, saying that she had no idea “what it was.” Recalling her “run-of-the-mill actor” days, she shared that she just went in for all sorts of things. And losing the part in Twilight turned out in the best way possible for her, as she would later land the lead role in The Hunger Games.
Jennifer Lawrence Doesn’t Regret Losing Twilight Part
Twilight was not the only major audition Jennifer Lawrence failed in the initial years of her career. She has shared that she also auditioned for the lead role in Tim Burton’s 2010 fantasy adventure Alice in Wonderland. The Red Sparrow star has shared that she was “devastated” after losing the part in the 2010 movie.
However, she is thankful for the way things turned out, as she landed the lead role in The Hunger Games just years after failing these auditions. “I got Hunger Games, I think, like, a year later,” Lawrence shared. Lawrence also mentioned how her life and career would have been so different if she had got the part in Twilight or Alice in Wonderland. She starred as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, which was received very well at the box office and by critics.
The Twilight film series and The Hunger Games franchise are available on Hulu.
