She-Hulk is facing a ton of criticism since its premiere on Disney+. As some audience feels the CGI to be crampy as hell, some expressed their distaste for the story structure. And of course, it will stay incomplete without the mention of the mid-credits scene from the last episode featuring the character with Megan Thee Stallion. But the story doesn’t seem to end soon as the latest question raised on the show is about She-Hulk’s body structure.
A certain section of fans claims that this version of Jennifer Walters has very little resemblance to that of the comics. Some allegations are also directed towards the company deliberately doing this to please the male audience.
She-Hulk gets embroiled in controversy
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law deals with the chronicles of the female lawyer Jennifer Walters who is the cousin of the widely popular Bruce Banner aka Hulk. After a car accident, due to a blood transfusion, she turns into the green huge She-Hulk.
Even though the show was supposed to spark in the fans a sense of feminism and acceptance of oneself, it’s rather garnering many eyes of criticism. While the CGI criticisms can be put to the side for the time being, now the fans are bashing MCU for toning down the Tatiana Maslany-led character’s muscles.
Complaints are being received by the fans that it is a deliberate act by the Kevin Feige fortress to make it look cleaner and please a wider portion of the viewers.
Criticism would have been there irrespective of the situation
Recently the show director Kat Coiro opened her mouth on the criticisms faced by the show. Addressing them, she expressed that the core idea of the physical features came from Olympian Athletes and not Bodybuilders.
“There’s a lot of talk about her body type. And we based her a lot on Olympian athletes, not bodybuilders, but I think if we’d gone the other way we would be facing the same critique. I think it’s very hard to win when you make women’s bodies.”
It will be a lie to not acknowledge the point of Koiro that no matter whatever the path they have chosen, criticism would have been there. It is also evident from the fact that a different portion of the audience thought Jennifer Walters’ words to be offensive toward men.
She-Hulk in comics
Over time, we have seen many characters going through transitions from their source material to their actual representation. Our very own Hulk can also be a very good example who is a whole different earth-menacing affair in the comics. While his present appearance is nothing in comparison to it. It is arguable though that this version is a different one still the truth can’t be subdued that he has changed a lot over his course in MCU.
Similar to Hulk, She-Hulk also had different appearances in various storylines. So such serious allegations on the studio might be a bit harsh for now. Rather it can be a valid complaint about how the studio is focusing more on cameos and a lot of other stuff when it needs to focus more on the VFX artists and good storytelling.
