Singer, dancer, and star Michael Jackson was one of the most important cultural figures in history. Known as the King of Pop, he is an irreplaceable part of pop culture, be it his music or his off-screen persona. The star sadly passed away in 2009 and was survived by his three children Michael ‘Prince’ Joseph Jackson Jr., Paris Jackson, and Prince Michael ‘Bigi’ Jackson.
His daughter, Paris Jackson has since entered the entertainment industry as a singer and an actor. However, Jackson claims that she has been abused by online trolls multiple times on social media.
Paris Jackson And Her Father’s Death
At the time of Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, he was one of the best-selling music artists, was inducted into multiple performing arts-related halls of fame, had one of the highest number of Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, and had won over sixty coveted awards. He passed away in 2009 due to a drug overdose while preparing for a series of comeback tours. His memorial service was watched by over 2.5 billion people worldwide.
His only daughter Paris Jackson was only eleven years old at the time and was subject to a lot of media scrutiny. She was exposed to the public many times even when her father was alive, and was known to wear masks to avoid the paparazzi when in public along with her dad and siblings. She was the daughter of Jackson and Debbie Rowe, who divorced in 2000 and Jackson retained full custody.
After her father’s death, Paris Jackson underwent severe mental health issues and was sent to a therapeutic school in Utah after she attempted suicide. She joined there at the age of 15 and has since claimed that her years at the school were tumultuous. She also reportedly had substance abuse problems.
Jackson started her career as a singer and a model and then moved on to acting. She starred in the horror anthology series American Horror Stories. She is also featured in the film Gringo.
Dealing With Attacks From Online Trolls
Paris Jackson has been very vocal about her issues on social media and has constantly taken a stand for issues she believes in. She stood in support of Paris Hilton after the latter revealed that she was a victim of child abuse when she was sent to a ‘behavior modification school’ in Utah. Jackson revealed that she too had been abused as a kid when sent to a therapeutic school and has been diagnosed with symptoms close to PTSD. She also revealed on the show Red Table Talk, hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith, that she had mental health issues and PTSD after being followed by the paparazzi.
In a recent video uploaded on her Instagram handle, Jackson spoke about how she faced online hate for not posting about her father’s birthday. She even said that some comments have been extremely abusive. She said,
“There have been times where I don’t post anything for my dad’s birthday, and people lose their f*cking minds. They tell me to kill myself…And they’re basically measuring my love for my own father based off of what I post on Instagram.”
She revealed that her father did not like to acknowledge his birthday and never expected a celebration during that time of the year.
“If you don’t wish someone a happy birthday via social media, it apparently means that you don’t love them, you don’t care about them…He actually didn’t want us to even know when his birthday was because he didn’t want us to throw a party.”
The actress then urged her followers to not spread hate to a person they have never met by using their love for a personality that they have never met as well.
