Michael Oher is one of the most popular NFL faces who had a huge contribution to the game. His tenure with the team Baltimore Ravens also earned him a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XLVII. Later, the former player achieved more success after the story of his life was adapted into several mediums that have been appreciated by many. But unfortunately, Oher doesn’t have similar views to others.
The 2009 sports drama titled The Blind Side was made on the life of Michael Oher and starred Sandra Bullock and Quinton Aaron in the lead. The movie turned out to be both a commercial and critical success along with an Oscar win for Bullock.
What did Michael Oher say about The Blind Side?
There have been many instances when the biopics didn’t appeal to the people they were based on. Such an example is also the former Baltimore Ravens player who was disappointed after watching the sports blockbuster. The Blind Side was based on how Michael Oher was adopted by the Tuohy family and rose the ranks to eventually become a successful NFL player.
According to an interview with ESPN, Michael Oher claimed that the movie’s depiction deviated a lot from reality which led to his fame being downgraded. Oher said that the Tuohys and Sandra Bullock‘s Leigh Anne Tuohy were given most of the credits for his NFL career in the 2009 movie.
“People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field.”
Michael Oher also added that the movie took innumerable liberties that differentiated the story from reality much more than needed. When the Super Bowl XLVII winner wrote his autobiography titled I Beat the Odds, he revealed that, unlike the movie, it was not only the Tuohys but many other individuals along with his siblings were also behind his motivation to success.
But the 37-year-old Oher wasn’t left unanswered as the lead of the movie Quinton Aaron replied to the former Offensive tackle in an interview with TMZ.
What did Quinton Aaron reply to Michael Oher?
Even though the movie wasn’t liked by Oher himself, audiences were fully positive about The Blind Side. It is praiseworthy how Sandra Bullock won the Oscar for Best Actress despite getting mixed reviews from critics.
Addressing the negative feedback by Oher, Quinton Aaron spoke that the movie was successful in sending a positive message to innumerable people. He questioned the former Carolina Panther about why he is concerned about what other people say even after being so successful.
“You gotta at some point notice the amount of people’s lives this movie has touched in a positive, encouraging and inspiring manner. At the end of the day bro you are a millionaire, you’re famous, you are a SuperBowl Champ, you have an amazing family that loves you, friends, fans and teammates. Who gives a damn about what people say or think who wanna criticize your game bro, that shouldn’t matter.”
Aaron concluded that the haters won’t stop and always continue to complain about everything. He praised Michael Oher that he is much more than what the people think about him and he shouldn’t focus on the negatives.
