A special military operative that has been trained in the art of executing personnel of the same caliber loosely describes the character of Jon Bernthal in Netflix’s The Punisher. The series portrays the story of Frank Castle, a former Force Recon Marine who is on a hunt to take out the conspirators who killed his entire family. The amount of sheer bada*s energy that the show oozed was infectious, which made it a hit amongst its audiences.
With all the special training that he received in order to play that character, Bernthal became somewhat of the character that he portrayed. But during his stay in Russia, he came to know that all of his training was nothing compared to the sheer craziness on display on the open streets of Mother Russia, where anything and everything goes.
Jon Bernthal Reveals What He Faced In Mother Russia
Playing the character of the stone-cold former marine who has nothing but murd*r on his mind in a daze to take revenge on the people who killed his family, Jon Bernthal‘s depiction of The Punisher on the Netflix series of the same name, he made his persona appear close to that of his character. And while he may have had the training and guts to make the perfect Frank Castle, it all came crumbling down he was faced with a loaded gun to the forehead in Russia.

On an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the Daredevil star was in a conversation with the host about his experience in Russia. He talked about how he came to know what kind of place and the rules that you had to follow to stay well in the country. He talked about the harsh nature of the country and how dark things can get quickly. Then, he recalled a horrifying incident on his third day that chilled him to the bone.
Explaining the situation, he told Rogan about how he saw two men physically abuse a woman with brutality, and how he couldn’t do anything to save her. he said:
“They take her over to this building, and they start opening her head up against the side of this building. So I forgot where I was, and I ran at this guy and I grabbed him. In english, I am like ‘Man, what the fuck are you doing? what are you doing?’, and he just pulled out a gun. He just put it right to my forehead, and he said in english, he’s like ‘Go Away!’. You know Joe, I knew in an instant that I was like a bug”
Sometimes, there are situations that truly open your eyes to the fact that there is a whole world out there that is truly dark, and where people should not go no matter what.
