With CW’s multiverse aka the Arrowverse coming to an official end following The Flash series’ wrap-up, Arrow star Stephen Amell discussed the situation of DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran. Announcing an ambitious slate of 10 new films, TV series, and animation projects, centered around “Gods and Monsters”, the new co-chairmen and CEOs didn’t need much time to show the world where the DC universe is headed.
Thus, weighing on James Gunn’s DCU, Stephen Amell expressed his opinions on the potential casting of the new franchise’s Green Arrow. Pondering upon his one final appearance as Green Arrow in The Flash season finale, Amell stated why he doesn’t consider it to be his last appearance as Oliver Queen.

Stephen Amell Comments On James Gunn’s Upcoming DCU
Starting his journey with DCU in 2012, Stephen Amell appeared as Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow in The CW series Arrow. Further, marking the end of his appearance as Green Arrow, Amell appeared in the season finale of The Flash in 2023. His return to the Arrowverse with the ninth and final season of The Flash was considered auspicious for his fans.
However, despite sticking to a particular character for more than a decade, Stephen Amell still feels The Flash wasn’t his last appearance as Green Arrow. Following the wrap-up and official end of DC’s Arrowverse, Amell weighed in on James Gunn’s plans for the new DCU. While James Gunn is preparing to begin with Superman: Legacy on July 11, 2025, Amell discusses the potential casting of the new franchise’s Green Arrow.
While discussing James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming DCU, Stephen Amell mentioned getting mixed messages. “The DCEU, they need to decide if they think that they’re better than television or if they want to participate. Because I get mixed messages, which to me just signals that, I don’t know.” Amell expressed. Further wishing everyone nothing but the best, the actor stated, “I want nothing more than amazing movies, but right now, they need us a lot more than we need them.”
Stephen Amell’s Opinion On Other Actors Playing Green Arrow
Considering the plans James Gunn and Peter Safran have for DCU, there is no doubt a possibility of witnessing a reprised or rebooted version of Green Arrow. However, after playing the role for more than a decade, Stephen Amell had some opinions about someone else playing his role in the upcoming DCU.
Calling himself “a custodian for” the character of Oliver Queen, the veteran actor Amell compared himself to the Superman in Smallville, Tom Welling.
“I am a custodian for Oliver Queen, and [Grant Gustin] is a custodian for Barry Allen in the same way that… look, I don’t think anyone’s asking Tom Welling how he feels about who’s going to play the new Superman.” Stephen Amell mentioned.
Although Amell expressed his excitement over witnessing other actors play his role in the upcoming versions, the actor appeared slightly saddened by the fact. “There will be another Oliver Queen. There will and it’ll be new and cool and exciting and however much the internet hates it is probably a direct indication as to how good it’s going to be.” the actor stated.
Although James Gunn planned out a massive interconnected universe for DCU, at the current moment there is no confirmation about Green Arrow or the rest of the Arrowverse. Gunn is yet to unveil his plans on the same.
