Tom Holland is an actor who knew very early that committing to one sort of character was not something he was ready for. He wanted range and he wanted a lot of it. He may be best known for playing Peter Parker, but he was adamant on not letting one role define his entire career. Fame did not come overnight to him and Holland fought hard for it.
From Uncharted to Cherry, stepping out of his comfort zone was not something he was afraid of doing. However, one particular task got him questioning many things. Working with the Russo Brothers once again was not something he saw as a difficult task. It wasn’t the character he was playing that gave him difficulty but instead, what he had to do in order to act as the character that got difficult for him.
Tom Holland Was Not Happy With Transforming For Cherry
When Tom Holland began his workout for Cherry, he did not expect his transformation to be as tiring as it got. It wasn’t the workouts or the crazy diet that got to him, but what he had to do outside of it. In general, method actors go a step further than what other actors do so as to resonate with their characters better. However, Holland is not a method actor.
“I would steer clear of those things, by the way,” the actor stated. “They must be impossibly unhealthy.”
Holland was given some sort of a booster shot, or what he termed as ‘supercharged energy shots.’ These would give him a massive amount of energy for at least three hours every time he took them. According to his consultant, these shots were used by hardcore gym-goers who were preparing for a heavy workout. He was forced to take them and after getting in contact with them, He even admitted that he would never take them again because of how horrible they made him feel.
Tom Holland Tried Method Acting
When Tom Holland first began acting, he tried the art of method acting. As it comes to transforming into a character, method actors don’t just transform, they become. Keeping this in mind, physical transformations can be excruciating, just as much as emotional transformations. Whether it is rapid weight gain and weight loss or it is a strict diet, prosthetics, or the pain that comes with emotions.
Holland admitted that he once tried method acting too but found it unhealthy. Mixing his own sense of self with his character seemed rather harmful to him and he understood that stepping away from method acting would be the best possible bet.
