Why Was Angelina Jolie Skeptical About Doing Gia?
1998’s Gia was a biopic about the model Gia Carangi and her life. The movie dealt with extremely sensitive subjects and was quite dark. These themes made Angelina Jolie, initially not too keen on taking up the role. She was afraid that these heavy topics would not be handled all too well. She did, however, eventually take up the role.
“When I read the script I had lots of reasons for not wanting to do it,” Jolie once told The New York Times. ”I didn’t trust that they would deal with drugs and AIDS in the right way. I was worried that they were going to make it a pretty story.”
After the movie came out, Jolie saw quite a big growth in her popularity. The actress exposed quite a bit herself and was incredibly vulnerable on screen. Due to this, she was afraid that her career would follow the trajectory of Gia Carangi as similar things happened with the late model. Due to this, she was considering quitting acting.
