The IT couple of Hollywood, Jennifer Lopez, and Ben Affleck, have always been public with their romance. However, excessive media involvement in their personal lives has always been a matter of concern for the couple. Bennifer’s chemistry is not just limited to some appearances on the red carpet; the couple has shown the magic of their chemistry on screen as well.
However, the real-life couple couldn’t make an impact on the audience with their charm. Previously, the duo starred together in the 2002 film Gigli, but unfortunately, the film failed at the box office due to its poor performance. According to Affleck, the film’s fate could have avoided the exaggerated criticism it received, but his highly publicized relationship became the reason for the trouble.
Ben Affleck had a hard time dating Jennifer Lopez
The tale of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s romance isn’t new. The couple who reconciled after almost a decade often makes headlines for their troubled relationship. However, it won’t be a startling fact, as even before tying the knot, the couple faced many difficulties in their relationship.
The main cause of these troubles was the unsolicited media intervention in their personal lives. It not only affected their relationship but, according to Affleck, negatively impacted their careers as well. Previously, when the couple was cast together in the film Gigli, the film saw a massive backlash from the audience.
During an interview, Affleck expressed his dismay at the criticism the film received and claimed that the reason for it was his relationship with Lopez, which was a major spotlight at the time. The actor reasoned it out by stating that other films that were released at that time were spared like any other bad movie, but people took a long time to digest the fate of Bennifer’s film. The actor specifically referred to Angelina Jolie’s film and said,
“It could have been a bad movie no one cared about. Angelina Jolie had a bad movie that year and no one cared. But it was because I was dating Jennifer Lopez that made it a big fucking deal. So not only was it just a bad movie but ‘they dated each other.'”
Though the couple’s onscreen chemistry failed to leave an impact on the audience, fans always rooted for their off-screen romance.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s romantic life invaded by the media
The dramatic romantic history of Bennifer’s love story is no less than a movie. The hills and valleys they have seen in their relationship have not gone unnoticed by the fans. The couple started dating in 2002 and soon became the talk of the town.
After continuing with their romance for a few years, the couple decided to make their relationship official by announcing their engagement. However, things turned south when the pair called off their engagement in 2004.
The twosome decided to part ways following the media’s excessive attention to their personal lives. Earlier, during an interview with a media outlet, Affleck reflected on his breakup with Jlo and said,
“I would say [media attention] was about 50 percent [of what destroyed our relationship]. The idea that people hate you and they hate you together and that being together is poison and ugly and toxic and the thing none of us want to be part of.”
However, the couple couldn’t stay apart for long as fate brought them together once again. The couple sparked rumors of their reunion in 2021, and a year later they officially announced themselves as husband and wife after tying the knot on July 16, 2022.
Yet, the media’s invasion of their private lives didn’t stop there, and the couple continued to be bothered by the unsought spotlight.
