Daniel Craig has been in talks about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the buzz still attracts a lot of fans. Earlier the James Bond star was rumoured to play a character in the MCU’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The Doctor Strange sequel has introduced a lot of characters and killed a lot of characters. It was indeed a madness spanning across multiverses. It was the madness of an extremely powerful, Scarlet Witch. Released in 2022, the third installment to the Doctor Strange series also builds hype around introducing Craig’s character.
Daniel Craig Was Supposed to Play Balder the Brave
Out of many speculations, following a video in the Heavy Spoilers YouTube channel that claimed Daniel Craig was supposed to play Balder the Brave in the film. Further, his character was meant to be one of the members of the Illuminati. However, as per reports, Craig left the project after the Covid-19 outbreak hit.
Further, the video on the channel claimed that Balder would have shared the same fate as the rest of the members of the Illuminati, killed by Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff in her violently mad attack.
Well, that didn’t happen, yet the buzz remained. Further, other reports indicated that Craig’s cameo role was deleted from the original movie. However, no one involved in the Benedict Cumberbatch starrer film confirmed that before.
Earlier, Balder being a member of the Illuminati was in the hot talk among fans. Certain rumors even speculated that Evid Dead fame Bruce Campbell could be cast as the comic book character.
Also, a concept piece of the portrait of Craig as Balder appeared from a concept artist on the film but the post revealed that it is “no further than [the] watercolor,” keeping the fans again in the dark.
Finally, Elizabeth Olsen Confirmed Daniel Craig’s MCU Role
Olsen played the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a primary hero-turned-villainous character. Coming to the news of Craig’s MCU role from her would be quite accurate. Speaking to Josh Horowitz in his show Happy Sad Confused the Scarlet Witch actor revealed that the James Bond star was, in fact, set to play Balder the Brave in the film. While conversing, Horowitz brought up Balder the Brave to which Olsen said, “Yes, that’s what I thought was going to happen.” Further, she confirmed that there was indeed a costume designed for the character. “Yeah, I saw the art. They made a costume. They had a design,” she said.
However, Craig denied his appearance in the film to the host on the same show saying “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Well, this could be Kevin Feige’s secret ploy to build further hype around the character.
Balder the Brave is a significant character in the Marvel comics. He is one of the Asgardian Gods in Norse mythology, Thor’s half-brother, and a companion to the Warriors Three. The character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The adaptation of this character to the MCU movie would be quite interesting to see as his descendant Thor has enjoyed quite a fame in the universe. However, there is no confirmation from the studio about the character’s future in the MCU, who knows, he could be another almighty superhero.
