Mark Hamill has no reason to reprise the role of Luke Skywalker

Even though Mark Hamill returned for The Rise of Skywalker and played a younger version of the character in The Mandalorian after his demise in The Last Jedi, Hamill is now completely done with Star Wars. Although the actor looks back fondly at his journey as Luke Skywalker and being at the forefront of one of the most iconic franchises in Cinema history, the actor believes there’s nothing left for him in this franchise. Considering the story of Luke Skywalker has come to fruition, he stressed its time to leave him behind and focus on other prominent characters. He said,

“I just don’t see any reason to [return to ‘Star Wars’]. Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore. I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough. I mean, the truth of the matter is, I never really expected to be remembered for anything. I just wanted to make a living doing what I liked.”

Although he seems very proud of his accomplishments in the sci-fi landscape, there was a time when he once tried to distance himself from this IP and received brutally honest advice from Carrie Fisher.

After being done with the original Star Wars trilogy, Mark Hamill tried to counter various acting jobs, including being part of several Broadway Productions. This did let to The Machine Star hiding his roots with Star Wars in the industry for a while. But when Carrie Fisher noticed the situation, the legendary actress gave Hamill brutally honest advice, which stuck with the actor to this date. He recalled,

“She said, ‘Why did you put in the Playbill: ‘He’s also known for a series of popular space movies’? Something like that. She said, ‘Get over yourself. Look: You’re Luke Skywalker. I’m Princess Leia. Just accept it!”
