Keira Knightley made an appearance in a Star Wars movie, and no, we’re not confusing her with Natalie Portman, even though they bear some resemblance. Knightley played the body double for Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
In an interview with Total Film magazine, Keira Knightley delved into her experiences in the iconic Star Wars galaxy and her time in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The actress also admitted that being on the Star Wars set ruined her childhood memories.
Why Keira Knightley Hated Being On The Star Wars Set
During the interview, Keira Knightley was questioned about her early film experiences, including her role in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The actress shared her memories and reflections on her time working on the iconic movie.
Keira Knightley candidly admitted that she hardly recollects her time on Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. But one standout memory she did recall was the discomfort caused by the heavy headdress she had to wear, which gave her a headache. Knightley also reminisced about a moment when she was in the background for an extended period, and she even dozed off in her chair due to the lengthy waiting time.
Keira Knightley revealed that her experience on Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was somewhat disappointing, as it shattered the magic of the original films for her. Having been a fan of the original Star Wars movies, she was excited to take on the role.
“The problem for me was that by being in the film the magic was broken. I loved the first Star Wars film and my mum was really into it too, that’s why I took the part. But the Force wasn’t there when we were filming it, and they didn’t have real light sabers, which annoyed me,” she said.
Pirates Of The Caribbean Changed Keira Knightley’s Life
In a candid conversation with Variety, Keira Knightley revealed the profound and life-altering consequences of her sudden fame after starring in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The overwhelming level of stardom brought upon her intense scrutiny and unexpected emotional struggles, resulting in unimaginable trauma for the actress.
“I found it pretty horrific. I’m not an extrovert, so I found that level of scrutiny and that level of fame really hard.”
As per Keira Knightley, the most significant effect of her fame was the overwhelming sensation of no longer being permitted to make mistakes. The pressure to be flawless and the fear of judgment created an added burden on her as a public figure.
