Joining the MCU in 2019, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel became the deus ex machina of the MCU. The film is set decades before the events in Avengers and follows Carol Danvers as she gets embroiled in a conflict between two galactic alien races.
Despite the character’s immense strength, she has barely featured in the MCU, briefly appearing in Endgame until her dramatic entrance at the end of the film. She also made cameo appearances in Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, still far from Wong’s cameo record.
Brie Larson’s workout hell for Captain Marvel
Similar to other actors who sign up for action and superhero movies, Brie Larson was also gearing up for a workout crash course for Captain Marvel. During the process, she noted that her being an introvert with asthma hindered her process of shaping up.

Brie Larson also noted that her reason for the workout was pure fear as she was supposed to do her own stunts. She described the process in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, stating:
“So I started training, and I learned that I was actually much stronger than I realized, and that my allergies were what was causing my asthma. So, I just took allergy medicine. And I could lift heavy weights and it really transformed my life.”
Since the movie’s release, the actor has continued to train herself and become a workout nut. She has become accustomed to the regimen, and her reasons for continuing are beyond her Captain Marvel role.
Captain Marvel’s future in the MCU
The character is already set to return in The Marvels directed by Nia DaCosta alongside Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau, which was announced back in 2019. In an interview with Inverse, the director hinted at the theme she’s incorporating in the movie, she said:
“….my biggest thing going into it was making sure I approached these characters as human beings and not necessarily as superheroes. I want to know more about Captain Marvel.”
Considering the upcoming flood of MCU productions, we can expect the character to have bigger appearances in them, including the Secret Invasion series and the upcoming Avengers movies.
The Marvels is slated to release in theaters on 28th July 2023.
