When Hollywood Rejected The Top Gun: Maverick Actor For Being Latino
With a team of not-so-rookie players in the field of aviation, Tom Cruise led the team in a tough fight that ended a bit similar to the rebels in the space franchise. Danny Ramirez, an American actor of Mexican descent, portrayed the character of Lt.Mickey ‘Fanboy’ Garcia in the movie.
With much fame acquired, the actor went on to an undisclosed movie set for an audition for a role. As per the Look Both Ways actor, the script for the upcoming movie was centered around the main character being Latino. Following Danny Ramirez’s audition, the studio decided to cast a white actor for the role of a Latino instead of…an actual Latino person.
Taking his anger out on Twitter, the Top Gun: Maverick actor revealed the behind-the-scenes of Hollywood and was surprised by the racism that they showcased.
Several people stood alongside the actor as they gave their sympathies and their validations to Danny Ramirez. Stating that the studio did not deserve the actor anyways, the fans reminded Ramirez that hope is always around the corner.
Danny Ramirez On Bonding With The Top Gun Team
During the early shooting of Top Gun: Maverick, the actors would all hit the gym to maintain their physique. According to reports by Page Six, Ramirez and the team essentially bonded by pushing each other to their maximum limits while in the gym.
Talking about a little competition in the game, Danny Ramirez revealed that the actors would try to reach as early as possible to outperform their co-stars and showcase their bulky muscles.
“There was a lot of competition with the guys, since the beginning of filming when it came to working out. I think it’s just funny, being with a bunch of dudes just pushing each other to the limit at the gym. Every day we start showing up earlier and earlier to the gym…it just brought cohesion to the group. We all knew abs were established in the first [film], so we had to take it to another level. So aesthetically I think we felt the need for the challenge.”
Their intense workout surely helped the movie since Top Gun: Maverick almost reached the $1.5 billion mark at the global box office. Being equally rated to its predecessor, Top Gun: Maverick became one of the best sequels to a classic film in Hollywood. The Tom Cruise starrer is currently available to stream on Paramount+.
