Dakota Johnson entered the film industry at the young age of 10 but gained prominence when she portrayed the role of Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades film series. Due to the immense prominence, she got from the film, she entered mainstream cinema. However, not all the effects were good for her.
Dakota Johnson Revealed How Fifty Shades of Grey Affected Her Personal Life
Initially, she shared how she often encounters awkward situations when people say something to her. She recalled an incident when a cab driver recognized her which only got weird later on.
“Like I was in a cab recently. And the driver was like, ‘You know, my wife and I, we saw a film.’ And I was like, ‘oh, that’s a great thing’. He’s like, ‘we really liked it.’ I was like, ‘thank you very much.'”
She continued that he eventually shared, “I thought that could be more s-x.”
When Ellen DeGeneres asked her if guys are attracted to her or scared of her due to her role, she commented,
“I guess they’re running for the hills” before sharing “I guess they’re scared of me.”
While her personal life was somewhat affected due to her performance in the 2015 film, she once shared her frustration filming erotic scenes in the film.
Dakota Johnson’s Thoughts on Filming Intimate Scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey
The erotic film is encapsulated with several explicit scenes that further complement the connection between the two characters. Johnson’s character was seen getting indulged in erotic scenes with Jamie Dornan’s Christian Grey several times which meant that she had to be quite bold to properly film them.
She once told Interview magazine that she was not comfortable filming those scenes by stating,
“Yeah. I’m doing one today. It’s not … comfortable. It’s pretty tedious.”
She continued,
“Well, we’re not having actual s*x. But I’ve been simulating s*x for seven hours straight right now, and I’m over it.
While the film has been taken in a negative light, she has no regrets about being a part of it. She once told Vanity Fair,
“I don’t think it’s a matter of regret. If I had known at the time that’s what it was going to be like, I don’t think anyone would’ve done it. It would’ve been like, ‘Oh, this is psychotic.’ But no, I don’t regret it.”
The role eventually catapulted her to success in Hollywood. Despite the film getting negative reviews, it was an immediate box-office success earning over $570 million worldwide.
