Perhaps everyone is guilty of pressing that “I’m 18 and above” button while visiting a p*rn site. While p*rn sometimes helps people get turned on, it also sets some unrealistic expectations for its viewers. Jada Pinkett Smith has a perfect analysis for this p*rn theory, as the actress herself has struggled with p*rn.
During a conversation on Red Table Talk, the actress admitted that she has an unhealthy relationship with p*rn. However, her mother certainly had a contrasting idea about adult films.
Jada Pinkett talked about the side effects of P*rn
The renowned Red Table Talk show, presented by Jada Pinkett Smith and co-hosted by her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and daughter Willow Smiths, brings the perspectives of three different generations on the most unabashed topics. Previously, the trio took up the topic of p*rn where Pinkett Smith shared that she had an unhealthy relationship with p*rn while she was practicing abstinence. The actress said,
“It was actually, like, filling, like, an emptiness. At least you think it is, but it’s actually not.”
Further, the actress went on to explain the negative effects of indulging too much in p*rn. She said,
“Actually reading, like, some of the effects of p*rnography, like the idea that it gives you false expectations as far as s*xual interactions, I can definitely see that with men.”
Pinkett Smith further asserted that p*rns are usually male-dominated and focus on man’s pleasure. Spitting out facts, Smith mentioned that women are used as objects that can be used as per choice. The actress said,
“How a woman should always be willing and ready. She should be ready to have s*x however he wants, in any position, anywhere, and you should enjoy it no matter what. And it shouldn’t just be joy, but it should be exhilaration. In p*rnography you’re never tired. There’s never a ‘no,’ so I can definitely see how that can create an unrealistic expectation.”
While her mother, Banfield-Jones, agreed with her, she had a slightly different opinion about p*rn, as it has been beneficial for her at times. Banfield-Jones explained,
“I grew up in a household that just created a lot of shame, which is so interesting because it wasn’t like that with [Jada], but it definitely was like that for me. There’s something about it that was freeing.”
Where both mother and daughter have a different perspective, they both are right at their place. Perhaps that’s the beauty of the show—that it focuses on the perspectives of different generations.
Jada Pinkett Smith has some positive opinions on p*rn as well
Willow Smith, who was listening to the conversation between her grandmother and mother, also shared her opinion on p*rn. The Whip My Hair singer said that she agrees with both her mother and grandmother. While giving her opinion on p*rn, she mentioned that women who watch p*rn are labeled as sl*t. She said,
“That structure that will label a woman as a slut and a ho when she expresses her s*xuality and finds joy in s*xual pleasure, that’s the same structure that is upholding this p*rn industry.”
While it seems like there is more of a negative opinion from the family, Pinkett Smith sheds light on the positive side of the p*rn. The actress said,
“I don’t really think we know culturally what women like in regards to s*x, because women have not been allowed to explore in the same way as men,” Jada said. “… We’re just getting to the point where we’re even giving ourselves the opportunity to explore, so we need years of that before we even know.”
Pinkett Smith’s concern over women’s pleasure is reflected in her conversation, as she, being a woman herself, understands better the needs of women.
