Florence Pugh Was Scared of Starting Her Marvel Career Beside Scarlett Johansson For A Surprising Reason

Florence Pugh is perhaps one of the most talented actresses in Hollywood. There is no doubt that she has proved this fact through her work in massively successful projects like Midsommar, The Wonder, Lady Macbeth, and most recently, her work in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. She has also been nominated for an Acadamy Award for Best Supporting Actress, credited to her work in Little Women.

Florence Pugh Was Scared To Be Part Of Marvel

Florence Pugh revealed that she was initially not sure that joining Marvel would be the best decision for her career. She elaborated that this was because up till her work in Black Widow, she had been part of much smaller, more theatrical projects that even though they may have profited a lot, were nothing compared to the heights that the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes.

In terms of the films that I was doing before, this is obviously a different step and a step that takes on its own new challenges,” she said. “And there’s a lot of pressure joining films like these.”

She revealed that she felt a lot of pressure coming into the project as she had also never done an action movie before and that proved to be quite challenging for her. She added that despite this, she believes that every actor fantasizes about playing a superhero and she was extremely excited about this opportunity for her. This, however, came with its own set of difficulties.

Florence Pugh revealed that she was afraid of how audiences would react to her version of Yelena Belova, a beloved character from the comics.

“When I got the role, I was very, very excited. I was totally nervous about the fact that I was now getting to play a very famous comic book character. And instantly, just being classic me, I was totally worried about if people were going to appreciate me as a casting choice for Yelena if they were going to be disappointed with the choices that I made as this character.” She said.

The actress revealed that though she was excited that she was chosen to play the Black Widow, she did not want to disappoint the fans with her portrayal of the character, as well as the creative decision she took for her. She was even afraid that people would question the choice of her being cast and want someone to be in her shoes instead.
