James Gunn is one of the most prominent and well-received directors for directing numerous smash-hit superhero films, and he has solidified his status for being the go-to choice director for any superhero film or series. The Peacemaker director has been in the movie industry for decades, though at first, he was just a screenwriter. Slowly, but steadily he established himself as the finest filmmaker whose films showcased unconventional storytelling, mockery, and visual style, making him one of the most in-demand visionaries.
DC Studios realized that the missing piece to make the DCU successful is James Gunn, as his earlier works for DC, that is, Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad were massive hits both commercially and critically. As a result, Gunn was hired to be the new co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. His upcoming film Superman: Legacy would be his first film in his DCU, he has high expectations from it and he does not have time to worry about petty complaints from fans.
James Gunn Shrugs Off Fans’ Petty Complaints
Superman: Legacy is James Gunn’s first major project in the rebooted DCU, as part of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. The announcement generated excitement among the fans as they finally expected to see Henry Cavill as Superman. However, much to the disappointment of the fans Cavill parted ways with the franchise, and David Corenswet is set to replace the actor.
The filmmaker had previously announced that Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, and Matamorpho would be a part of the film as well. As a result, fans started to complain and a fan asked him on Threads if the main character would get less screen time.
“James, don’t you think there is too many characters in Superman Legacy? I just feel like there wont be much time for Superman himself.”
Gunn gave an annoyed response to the fan and in the process, he dragged Jude Apatow into the conversation.
“I don’t understand this fear. There are less characters than in 40-Year-Old Virgin. Did you think Steve Carell got enough time?”
For Henry Cavill fans it is a sad year, as The Suicide Squad director announced that Cavill will not be a part of the rebooted franchise. However, it looks like he is ready to switch ships by joining DC’s archnemesis Marvel.
Henry Cavill Addressed If He Will Join The MCU
Recently, a rumor started to circulate that Cavill will be a part of Loki’s Season 2 cast. Tom Hiddlestone’s Loki had a multiverse solo run in Phase 4, and Marvel decided to renew the TV Series for a 2nd season because of the positive response from the fans. There have been rumors regarding the new faces that fans would see in the upcoming season of the show.
One of the most popular rumors was that Henry Cavill would be a part of the series. The Enola Holmes actor was present on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast with Josh Horowitz, where he addressed the rumor if he will be a part of Loki season 2, and if he will switch sides.
“As far as I know, I am not going to be in Loki… It would be a tricky one to handle at this stage… If James Gunn can do it, maybe I can too.”
About Gunn taking over the DCU, Cavill stated that he is “very excited about that.” Since the actor is not a part of any major franchise it is quite possible that he can join the MCU, as it was rumored that he will join Team Red as Captain Britain, or perhaps he can switch things a bit and play a negative role.
Superman: Legacy will be released on 11th July 2025.
