Hold on tight to your seats guys, the new chapter of the DC Universe is going to be announced anytime now. For months now, fans have been kept in the dark regarding the new era of the DCU. James Gunn and Peter Safran’s much-anticipated slate has us all biting our nails.
Since James Gunn stated that fans will get an update about some of the projects in the slate in January, there has been quite a commotion regarding the same. If anyone has not checked the calendar for the past few days, it’s the 31st of January today and so far there haven’t been any official updates. However, as always, there are reports coming out about the slate and one of them talks about the future of Batman in the superhero universe.
Is James Gunn Planning on a New Batman?
Amidst all the excitement about the upcoming announcement, reports are suggesting that there will be not one but two Batmen in the DCU. While there were speculations about Robert Pattinson’s Batman joining the DCU, a Twitter user who goes by the name, @SupermanOnFilm, has reported that the Matt Reeves-directed The Batman will be doing its own thing. The reports also suggest that now, there will be a new Batman in the DCU.
What exactly James Gunn and Peter Safran have in store for us is difficult to say at the moment. Is keeping Pattinson’s Batman separate from the DCU a good move or will it face some raised eyebrows from the fans? Who is the supposed new Batman? There are too many questions and too little patience now. Lucky for us though, the first chapter is going to be announced sooner than we know. We just have to hold our breaths till then. Fingers crossed!
How Much Longer for James Gunn’s Announcement?
According to insider Grace Randolph, the new slate, following the private press event, will be announced today (January 31st) at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. She also stated that while a lot of people already know the projects in the slate, it’s impressive that it hasn’t been leaked yet.
According to Randolph, the first chapter is still “VERY” DC and does not mimic Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way possible. This was a common worry amongst fans of the super serious DCU, thanks to Gunn’s background with the more light-hearted superhero universe. Randolph even went out on a limb and called it “Snyder-y”.
@SupermanOnFilm also gave a tiny sneak peek into the future stating that they were “way wrong” about the announcement only consisting of three or four projects. This means that the announcement of the first chapter has a ton of projects that fans might (or might not) get excited about. But by the looks of it so far, it certainly seems like Gunn managed to pull a win for the DCU.
There isn’t much to discuss at the moment but things are more definitely than not changing tomorrow. If the announcement does drop at noon, it’s going to be a treat tomorrow for the fans to sit down and dissect the upcoming projects. Make sure to stay tuned for more updates!
