Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie starring Margot Robbie are going for an all-out smackdown in the theaters this month. Both films are opposite extremes of each other but it looks like fans are going to have a joyride one after another. Comparing both films would be absolutely nonsensical, except for one thing!
Many of Nolan’s films so far, such as Inception, Tenet, and The Dark Knight trilogy are known to use minimalistic CGI as he likes being true to the scenes and to the audience. Oppenheimer follows the same ritual as the film, according to Nolan has not even used a single bit of CGI to show explosion scenes.
Along with that revelation, Greta Gerwig has also made one of her own. As the much anticipated Barbie is about to dazzle her way onto the big screens this month, Gerwig has revealed to us that her film also didn’t use CGI for a particular scene because that would be “terrifying.”
It is the scene when Margot Robbie is first shown as the titular character stepping out of her high-heeled slippers and showing her “perfectly arched” feet.

Greta Gerwig Likes Margot Robbie’s Feet
Barbie, without going into the depths of the feminine aspects of her character, would have been a bland attempt at showcasing one of the most globally recognized dolls. But, that has changed with Gerwig at the helm. It looks like Warner Bros studio does know how to navigate its way with such a fresh film.
During an Australian talk show, Gerwig said –
“Margot has the nicest feet, like these beautiful dancer’s feet. ‘There was a big discussion,’ everybody asked, ‘Are you going to CGI the feet?’, I said, ‘Oh god, no!’ That’s terrifying, that’s a nightmare.”
While Barbie dolls have a lot of sharp features, the live-action film would definitely take some inspiration from them. Gerwig knows that she had to showcase Margot Robbie’s feet instead of digitally faking them.
Greta Gerwig Going Up Against Christopher Nolan?
While Greta Gerwig is nowhere near the caliber of Christopher Nolan and the “magic” he delivers into his films, she is on her way to making a mark in the film industry with her first-ever attempt at making a live-action Barbie film. She got Ryan Gosling to play Ken!
According to Gerwig, Barbie has a lot more to say than just her feet. With a budget of $100 million, she has managed to gather a strong star cast, such as Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, and Issa Rae.
Although, it looks like Christopher Nolan has definitely outdone Gerwig as the budget for his Oppenheimer also stands at $100 million, coincidence? With similar budgets, Nolan’s project seems to have achieved a lot with all the intense explosion scenes, and getting the Hollywood giants on board. It looks like only Nolan could have pulled that off.
While Oppenheimer explodes into theaters on July 21, Barbie will definitely be waiting for you in the next show with her “goody two shoes,” quite literally!
