The Witcher Season 3 Trailer Receives Massive Backlash From Henry Cavill’s Fans

A post from Twitter revealed how The Witcher Season 3’s official teaser trailer was bombarded with dislikes from fans. At the time it was screen captured, a shocking total of 52,000 likes against 202,000 dislikes was recorded, not to mention the comments section oozing with complaints.

Fans expressed their gratitude toward Henry Cavill who worked hard to bring a story that is faithful to the source material. As a massive fan and gamer of Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher, the British actor contributed a lot to the adaptation of the project since its release in 2019.

Now, many of his supporters talked about his upcoming Warhammer 40K on Amazon, a project he has more control over. With this early reaction from fans, it is quite expected that the franchise would not last long. Most of the backlash was directed towards Cavill dropping from the show rather than the video itself.

The Witcher fans would remember early reports about the 39-year-old actor’s exit from the project claim that he and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich argued over the direction of the series. The studio wanted something different and radical, while Cavill insisted on sticking to the original narrative.

Rumors claim that Cavill reportedly showed strange behavior on set and became toxic towards women at work. Although many believed this was the reason for his departure, most fans know that the actor was unhappy with the deviation as he only wanted something along the lines of just being faithful to the source material.

Will Fans’ Negative Response To The Trailer Affect The Series?

So far, there is no concrete explanation as to The Witcher lead star’s exit, but fans bombing the show’s trailer is truly telling the studio exactly how they feel about the recent changes. Many avid supporters confessed to abandoning the series after Season 3.

It’s a good thing, too, that no one slammed Liam Hemsworth in the comments section, as many of the statements solely focused on Cavill’s exit. The Australian star has proved himself talented in many projects he has done in the past, and if he managed to carry the series despite the massive backlash, it would be considered a major feat for the franchise.

Until the series premieres on Netflix, the studio would only have to take hints from the current reaction of fans toward the trailer. Whether this mass disliking trend affects the show’s future rating or not, Netflix would have to rethink its plan for the upcoming seasons.

The Witcher Season 3 arrives on Netflix this June 29, 2023.
