The Witcher makers are reportedly planning to reboot the Netflix franchise following Henry Cavill’s departure. The lead star of the show announced his departure earlier in 2022. While fans were not very happy with the news, they are still curious about how the makers will address Geralt of Rivia’s recasting in the upcoming season. Earlier, the show’s creator said they are planning a fitting farewell for the Cavill in season 3.
While there is not much information available about how the makers plan to introduce Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia, a new theory has appeared after the release of Blood Origin. And it suggests that Netflix could reboot the franchise to address the recasting.
Netflix Could Reboot The Witcher Franchise After Season 3
According to a new theory raised by Youtuber The Sporking News Podcast, the Witcher makers could reboot the franchise after season 3. The Youtuber shared his theory on Bounding Into Comics’ weekly live stream, The Black Pill Stream, on December 28, 2022.
He shared that after watching Blood Origin, he came to realize that Netflix could reboot The Witcher franchise after season 3. The Youtuber claimed that either the makers would rewrite Henry Cavill’s character or would start from the first season once again.
“They’re either going to write Geralt out completely and have a different Witcher, or [Liam Hemsworth] is going to take the role over. But they’re going to start from season one again, and it’s just going to be a different story.”
He then explained the post-credit scene of The Witcher: Blood Origin, which shows Avallac’h using the Monoliths to travel 1500 years to the future city of Cintra. Avallac’h sees young Ciro playing dice with her friends on the streets.
The first episode of The Witcher has a similar scene. However, the one who was watching Ciri in season 1 was Geralt of Rivia. The post-credit scene could lead to a change in the timeline, and the makers can use it to introduce a new version of Geralt in season 4.
Why Does Geralt of Rivia Need a Farewell From His Own Show?
The Sporking News Podcast also questioned the statement given by the executive producer of the show earlier in December 2022. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich shared in an interview that they have planned a fitting farewell for Henry Cavill’s character in the upcoming season of the show.
“Henry has given so much to the show, and so we want to honor that appropriately,” she said. Hissrich also shared that Geralt in season 4 would be slightly different from Cavill’s version and would have “a new mission in mind.” The YouTuber asked why the lead character would need a farewell from his own show.
He mentioned why would Lauren Schmidt Hissrich talk about giving “the most heroic sendoff” to the character when the whole show is based on him. He said, “They’re letting us know, without telling us, they are rewriting season one of The Witcher, bye-bye Henry Cavill.”
More information could be available after the release of The Witcher Season 3. The 4-episodes spinoff, Blood Origin, has not been able to live up to its expectations. Many believe that Henry Cavill’s departure is also a reason behind its failure.
Considering the show’s failure, fans may also have a hard time accepting Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia in the future seasons of the show. The Witcher Season 3 will release in the summer of 2023.
