Marvel stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s on-screen chemistry as Wanda Maximoff and Vision was the emotional and romantic core of the frenetic action in the Avengers films. Their partnership which commenced with 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron developed over the course of the MCU with the pinnacle being the Emmy Award-winning WandaVision series on Disney+.
With both characters’ arcs looking to have culminated at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Olsen commented on her fond memories and easy rapport with Bettany on set. The star also spoke of one of the few real disagreements that she had with her co-star during the filming of a romantic kissing scene in WandaVision
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany Struggled With A Romantic Scene
Working together was a breeze for Marvel stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany except on one occasion during the filming of WandaVision. At the end of the final episode, both stars were involved in a kissing scene which turned out to be a very uncomfortable situation with Bettany’s Vision makeover playing spoilsport. Recalling the incident, Olsen said,
“I have to say that while he’s purple, while he has dots on his face, and while his last layer of make-up is glitter, and when he kisses me, it’s on my mouth. I mean, it’s just, the whole thing is a mess.”
The scene which Olsen dubbed “Snotgate”, resulted in a genuine argument between the two stars as they struggled to conquer it over messy drips of makeup threatening to ruin the mood. With both actors blaming each other for snoting into the other’s face, the situation was messy and also hilarious as Olsen later looked back on it.
Will Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany Return To The MCU?
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany have forged a chemistry on and off screen with their characters Wanda Maximoff and Vision in the MCU. While their arcs have seemingly been closed at the culmination of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there are speculations about their return to the MCU after an open ending to their roles in WandaVision.
Paul Bettany has dangled a carrot in front of fans that Marvel head Kevin Feige, who doesn’t like to leave loose ends hanging, may consider developing Vision more in the future. As for Olsen, Feige was non-committal about her future presence in the MCU after she appeared to meet her death at the end of Doctor Strange 2. Meanwhile, rumors have already indicated that Olsen will be seen as Wanda in the new Agatha: Coven of Chaos Disney+ series while Bettany is said to have his own Vision Quest series in the works too.
