Portraying a never-before-seen iteration of Gotham’s vigilante protector to perfection, the performance that The Machinist star brought to the sets was something that can only be described as exceptional. But along with all the recognition, there also came a likely possibility that he would now be considered a typecast film star who would just be remembered for this one particular role, something that can destroy an actor’s career. In an interview, he said:
“I’ve had no strategy for anything I’ve ever done. I was quite taken with the idea of Batman being the last thing I ever did, the thing I’m remembered for, I was also tempted by the fact that people said I might be typecast and not work again. But I’ve kept on working.”
While he might’ve comprehended the idea to make Batman his last role, he was also tempted to prove everyone wrong about the role that would limit him from playing anything else, and the rest is history.

While there may have been many iterations of the bat vigilante in the past, what sets The Dark Knight Trilogy apart is the grounded nature of the events and the villains that the series gives us. Rather than turning the film into just a visual spectacle, the trilogy focuses on pinning Bruce Wayne against insurmountable odds, which challenges him and develops him as a character. Therefore, Nolan’s version of Batman was something that the audience could connect with on a deeper level, which made the series such a critical and commercial success.
