Pedro Pascal Was Almost Rejected By Game Of Thrones Showrunner After Being Asked To Do Impossible Task To Secure His Role

If there’s one actor on the planet who can do just anything and everything, it’s most certainly Pedro Pascal. Film, television, and theatre – a star on all three platforms, the Hollywood heartthrob is renowned for his extraordinarily brilliant performances. And being the sharp-witted personality that he is, Pascal almost got rejected by the Game of Thrones showrunner after he tackled an impossible task he was asked to do to secure his role in the series, winning his audition even the title of being ‘amateurish’ by the show’s co-creator.

Pedro Pascal is one of the most critically acclaimed personalities worldwide, and he is worth every praise he gets. A real star even before his television success, The Last of Us actor got his mainstream success from the super famous book-adapted TV series, Game of Thrones. But the way he got the role is out of the ordinary.

To secure his role in the TV show back in 2013, he was asked to do the task of memorizing 20 or so pages of dialogues and presenting them in his audition. But what made this task impossible was the very minimal time limit that he received. Thus, he used his own gigantic yet witty brain to tackle the situation and somehow managed to do it with the least effort. Sharing the same in an interview, he revealed,

“I had my friend tape me with my iPhone,” he said. “There were so many pages. They sent me like 20-something pages to do, which obviously, in the time that they wanted the tape to be turned in, I wasn’t going to be able to memorize all those lines. So the easiest way was for somebody to sit in front of you with an iPhone and then just kind of like have the pages down here and read it casually. And the suckers fell for it. Is that my fault? No, it’s theirs.”

Just like that, Pedro Pascal gave his audition while reading through the pages! And although showrunner and co-creator David Benioff even remarked his audition as ‘amateurish’, Pascal still ended up scoring the role in the hugely popular fantasy series because his performance was the same as what they wanted to see his character as.

Pedro Pascal got the role of playing the prince from Dorne, Oberyn Martell. With his character notoriously known for being dangerous and unpredictable, The Last of Us star portrayed him in the best possible way, so much so, that he even received much of his fame from the same.

However, his character doesn’t even last a whole season, dying a gruesome death in episode 8 of season 4 of the series. His take on this? As ingenious and sarcastically optimistic as ever.

“If I’m actually up there and if I’m in the top 3? I mean, then like, I don’t need to do it. I’d say everything thereafter is a bit futile. Why am I still trying? I did it.”

While his Game of Thrones character couldn’t make it to the end, Pedro Pascal did manage to do it in the long run, establishing a finely reputable position for himself in the entertainment industry with his awesomely compelling works that never fail to captivate his audiences.
