It seems that the Sony PlayStation Event did not go as planned and left the vast majority of fans feeling somewhat underwhelmed. And for the second time in succession, the PlayStation fans who were hyped for an event were left disappointed.
If Sony were intending to keep pace with Nintendo after their big September Direct Thursday, then going by fan reaction, they have sadly fallen short.
What was revealed at Sony PlayStation Event?
With the livestreamed event, there were promises to the viewers that there would be the latest PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR 2 games. These were said to range from indie games to some of the upcoming titles from third-party partners.
“i’m a playstation fan but i’m getting real tired of these one trick pony games everyone will play for a month cause of youtubers playing it and then forget about. + horrible way to start a state of play. looks like a ps3 game at best” – @play_ps5

Nothing sums up the State of Play event more than the reveal of the ridiculous walking simulator, Baby Steps. If this is the best that indie game developers have to offer, then it’s no wonder fans were unimpressed.
“I wouldn’t play this if they paid me to.” – @_D4NJ4
“Literal walking sim. Death Stranding really affected the gaming industry, huh.” – @Palsooooo
Although Final Fantasy 7 fans were delighted to get a release date of February 2024 for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there was rather surprising news that you won’t be able to port over your Final Fantasy 7 Remake saves or character builds.

And not even the sight of Red XIII would alleviate the disappointment for fans as game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed:
“We have announced that the Final Fantasy VII remake project will be a trilogy and that each entry will be a standalone game in its own right. Because of this, each game’s balancing is done independently and a player’s levels and abilities will not carry over from one game to the next”
However, Hamaguchi did go on to say that players who had played the previous game would receive ‘special bonuses’, meaning that they would start Rebirth with at least a little something extra.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for fans at the Sony PlayStation Event, however. Spider-Man fans were treated to an extended look at the city for the upcoming Spider-Man 2, and Resident Evil fans will be delighted with the news that Resident Evil 4’s DLC, Seperate Ways, is a matter of days away from release.
