“The same thing was said about Redford and Paul Newman when they were younger,” argues Cruise’s spokeswoman Pat Kingsley, ”that they were s*x symbols but there wasn’t much s*x in their movies. It was the tenor of the early movies; coming-of-age films are about discovering things like sex. Tom’s 31 years old now. He’s come of age.”
Hence, Tom Cruise shifted his attention from loud and raunchy s*x scenes to becoming the top-tier action star who prefers doing his stunts. From flying a hyper-modern plane like the F-35 Lightning II in Top Gun: Maverick to jumping off a cliff in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, he does not cave in to do the work to make his films look realistic. But it looks like Cruise’s newest sequel in the Mission Impossible franchise is set to face a major loss.
Tom Cruise Clashed With Paramount Studios Over Mission Impossible’s Direction
According to sources close to Paramount Studios, Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One had a budget of around $300 million. However, Variety in a report stated how the studio’s CEO, Brian Robbins, said that Tom Crusie disagreed with the making costs of the film. Moreover, Christopher McQuarrie, the director of the film was part of the disagreement as well.
“Let’s just say that the studio and the production and Tom were in a disagreement over direction, and there was a stalemate going on. We had to hit the pause button.”
The spy franchise has been a major hit and it is worth a little over $4 billion. However, according to a Box Office Pro Analst, the pandemic was one of the two reasons for the film’s staggering budget, and now the sequel is set to lose $78 million.
