Black Adam’s release was a huge win for the fans of the DC Universe simply because they finally got to see Henry Cavill back in action. The dialogues between his Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam were gripping enough to excite fans about the upcoming era of DCU.
However, we all know that excitement and happiness were very short-lived. James Gunn and Peter Safran’s hierarchy let down the fans of Henry Cavill’s Superman. While most of the blame was obviously put on the Gunn-Safran duo, Dwayne Johnson, too, found himself at the receiving end of a lot of criticism. While the blame kept on coming, his fans certainly have his back as they deflect any claims that suggest he had a part in Henry Cavill’s removal.
Dwayne Johnson gets the Support of his Fans
Like it’s mentioned above, James Gunn and Peter Safran, obviously, were the main focus of all the criticism and hate comments from fans that were desperately waiting for a Henry Cavill return. Their new slate involving a young Superman wasn’t taken very well by the fans. However, there were some who also blamed Dwayne Johnson for having a hand in the whole ordeal.
Johnson had repeatedly said that his movie would mark the beginning of a “new era” for the DCU. This era would be one that takes a minute to listen to what the fans want and then act accordingly. Therefore, the addition of Cavill. But in the end, DJ became the one to put the blame on as fans stated that he used Cavill for his own agenda – to promote Black Adam. Fans were also disappointed with him when he didn’t have anything to say about Cavill’s departure. They stated that while he couldn’t stop talking about his cameo in the movie, it looked like the cat got his tongue when it came to talking about Cavill’s brutal removal.
But, Johnson has nothing to worry about, not even his haters. Why? Well, because he has his loyal fans to do the work for him. His fans have got his back and are clapping back at the people who blame their beloved actor/wrestling legend for what the Studios decided.
So, while Johnson could’ve overdone it to get the special cameo, it’s highly unlikely that his decision could sway the Studios either way. According to Gunn and Safran, Cavill simply doesn’t find a place in their vision of DCU, at least for now. However, Gunn stating that they would be potentially working together in the future does raise some hope.
Is WB to Blame?
In a previous video posted by Johnson on his Twitter, he talked about how the WB. Studios did not really want Cavill to return to the DCU. Johnson in the video stated that it took years of strategic conversations with them and that Johnson’s team was simply not going to take no for an answer. He fought hard to bring Cavill back.
“This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back and years of strategic conversations and we were not going to take no for an answer. There was no way, there’s no viable logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC Universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines. It’s impossible to do…It all comes back to where Superman you have to have Superman in the mix. So that’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill, and there was no other Superman.”
So, why did it take WB Studios to agree to one of the biggest cameos in the superhero genre? The fact that they weren’t really keen on getting Cavill back in the first place says a lot to answer that question!
You can watch Cavill’s final run as Superman as Black Adam is available to stream on HBO Max.
