2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder had a slightly different approach to the iconic Marvel character. Director Taika Waititi created the last two Thor films and is now working on his third one. Many fans claimed that Thor: Love and Thunder felt like a rehashed version of 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, so Waititi now has the opportunity to prove everyone wrong.
With the expectations at an all-time high, Waititi is under a lot of pressure because of he ruins this one, the fans will not forgive him. Waititi’s third Thor movie will be the fifth movie in the franchise and will reportedly feature a villain stronger than Hela.
Thor 5 will be directed by Taika Waititi
Director Taika Waititi is once again back to create another Thor movie as he confirmed that he will work on the fifth installment in the Thor franchise. 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder was a disappointment for many fans so the next Thor movie will give Waititi an opportunity to redeem himself.
In the upcoming Marvel’s Thor 4: Love and Thunder Movie Special book, Waititi explained what he is planning for the future of the franchise. The director will make an attempt to put Thor against “more and more outlandish and crazy beasts, monsters, and aliens” while staying true to the comic material.
The fans reacted to the news
Fans were quite disappointed when they got to know Waititi will be back on the project. Many fans complained that the director wasted Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher as the character had much more potential.
It seems like fans are not satisfied with Waititi’s vision and there are valid reasons for it. Not just Gorr the God Butcher, but it also felt like Thor was sidelined in his own movie. Fans are demanding to see a slightly serious approach to the character rather than making it an unnecessary comedy.
Thor 5 will feature a villain stronger than Hela
In the Special book, Waititi also talked about the villain in the next Thor movie, explaining that it won’t be weaker than Hela,
“What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome. I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable.”
The release date for Thor 5 is not officially announced by Marvel Studios but it is expected to hit the theatres in early 2027.
