Earlier this year, Emmy-nominated actor Jonathan Majors was arrested for the alleged domestic abuse of a woman he was romantically involved with. Now, a trial date for the same has been set as the MCU star appeared in New York criminal court on Tuesday. But right before his court appearance, Majors’s lawyer brought forth new evidence that seems to prove the actor’s innocence whilst simultaneously implicating the NYPD of racist motives.
Jonathan Majors’ Arrest Gets Ascribed to Racism
A few months back on March 25, Jonathan Majors was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment involving his now ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. During his recent court appearance, however, Majors’ lawyer Priya Chaudhry claimed that the actor’s arrest was propped up on racist grounds.
Majors, 33, his lawyer claimed, wasn’t responsible for the injuries that Jabbari, 30 sustained as opposed to the latter’s allegations of assault. Penning a letter to Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Rachel S. Pauley, one which seemingly proves his innocence, Chaudhry wrote –
“Even though Ms. Jabbari admitted to drinking to the point of throwing up, taking sleeping pills, and having no idea how she woke up in a closet with a cut on her head and injured finger, the police jumped to the conclusion that Mr. Majors (the young, tall, strong, rich Black man) must have ‘done this’ to Ms. Jabbari.”
Chaudhry claims that Jabbari had said “I don’t know’ nineteen times” to both paramedics and the police when she was being questioned about her wounds. She also pulled footage that seems to corroborate the fact that the alleged victim’s injuries took place roughly seven hours after her fight with Majors while she was sequestered in his penthouse apartment as a result of her inebriated state.
Chaudhry further noted that all six of the responding officers on the case were white, ultimately accusing the lead officer of “coaching Ms. Jabbari to accuse Mr. Majors of assault.”
A Trial Date Has Been Set for the MCU Star
Majors, who was accompanied in court by his current girlfriend, Meagan Woods along with his legal counsel, is set to appear for trial on August 3, 2023.
The Creed III star was believed to have gotten ensnarled in a “domestic dispute” with Jabbari, who reported to officers about “minor injuries to her head and neck.” Majors, who recently starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was held in custody, albeit briefly, and was released later that day based on an order of protection.
As for the new evidence that has emerged, the NYPD is yet to make any statements about the accusation that Majors’ arrest was an act of racism.
