James Gunn has been involved in a multitude of heated debates ever since he became the head of DC Studios. Gunn along with Peter Safran became the co-heads of DC Studios and completely changed the hierarchy of the DCU.
When talking about the managing authority before them, James Gunn revealed a difference that separates him from Zack Snyder and how Warner Bros. Discovery will not interfere with his work, unlike Zack Snyder.
James Gunn Gets A Free Reign Over DC Studios
Prior to James Gunn becoming the head of DC Studios, Zack Snyder was given a free hand to work on his projects in the DCU. By helming the 2013 Man of Steel, Snyder found much love and adoration from the people for his directing style. In the following years, Zack Snyder went on to direct two more movies for the DCU namely Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
During his time over at DC, Snyder was prone to much interference from the higher-ups from Warner Bros. Discovery (formerly Warner Bros.). James Gunn, in a tweet, clarified that he and Peter Safran are the only ones allowed to interfere with other works in DC and that they have been given a free hand, unlike Zack Snyder.
By showcasing his power, James Gunn clarified that he and Safran are the only people in charge at DC Studios. Although there have been many controversial decisions that the co-heads had to take after gaining the seat of power, Gunn and Peter Safran are on a voyage to reconstruct the entirety of DC by breaking all the walls. Although the Peacemaker director was allowed a free hand at DC, there were 4 projects that the director was not allowed to interfere with, and one of them was canceled recently.
James Gunn And Completed Projects At DC
Being given a free hand at DC gave The Suicide Squad director a lot of power and responsibility to improve the franchise name. Although Gunn can have his wish fulfilled at any instant, there were several untouchable projects that he was not allowed to interfere with no matter the situation.
After conflicting reports of the cancelation of Gal Gadot starrer Wonder Woman 3, the reports aren’t sure if Gunn was involved in the decision or not. Patty Jenkins’ directed Wonder Woman 3 happened to be one of the unreachable projects that James Gunn would not interfere with. The list also included upcoming movies like The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Todd Phillip’s Joker: Folie à Deux, and, Blue Beetle. Following the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3 and the removal of Henry Cavill from the DCU, many fans are conflicted and await the upcoming movies to see how Gunn would change the face of the DCU moving forward.
