Amazon Prime Australia Confirmed The Office Reboot

The beloved sitcom The Office originated in 2001 in the UK as a mockumentary show. It explored the workplace setting in the Slough branch of a fictional paper company. Following its popularity, in 2005 a US version launched on NBC starring Steve Carell as the cringe-worthy Michael Scott. Playing the role of the regional manager of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton Branch, Carell became a household name sooner than ever.

Being under development since 2018, the Australian version exclusively confirmed the remake and mentioned adding its own little plot twist. Navigating the story in the post-COVID era, the packaging company called Flinley Craddick experiences a shutdown with staff forced to work from home.

Thus, revolving around the Managing Director of the packaging company, just like the original series, even the reboot is to derive laughter from the cringeworthy mismanagement. However, this time the show has a different plot twist as the managing director happens to be a woman. Yes, the legendary character of Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, turns out to be a woman in the Australian reboot.

The 42-year-old comedian and actress is set to replace Carell’s Michael Scott, with her role as Hannah Howard, the managing director of Flinley Craddick. According to the Australian version, Howard “goes into survival mode, making promises she can’t keep in order to keep her ‘work family’ together”. It is up to the staff of the packaging company who are bound to “endure Hannah’s outlandish plots as they work toward the impossible targets that have been set for them”.

With filming set to take place over eight weeks, the reboot is deemed to go global in 2024.
