Starfield has taken away sleep from the gaming community’s eyes. Players are getting sucked into its immersive world faster than a black hole. The buzz that Bethesda created for the last couple of years has helped it increase the potential number of people in the Starfield community. The video game was released on 6 September 2023, yet it has sold over 2 million copies in less than a week.
Starfield has been Bethesda’s long-term project. Even when Fallout 4 was released, the developers were busy planning for it. So, it is unsurprising that so many audiences love the game. Upon its release, it was highly praised for its gameplay, especially for the open-world feature. But even after such developments, the video game’s production cost is half the most expensive game ever made.
Starfield‘s Cost of Production is Half of Star Citizen
Bethesda took nine years to prepare Starfield fully. The creators had brainstorming sessions, then they planned, then the development team came in, then we were advertising, fixing the bugs, etc., and then it was released for the gaming community. This whole process was not cheap. The production cost of Starfield is a whopping $200 million – a number with more zeroes than we can imagine.

But this number is nothing compared to the most expensive game – Star Citizen. Star Citizen is developed by Cloud Imperium Games and is powered by Amazon Lumberyard and CryEngine. It is a multiplayer video game that is still in development. It was first announced in 2011. But there has been no official release date till now. In August 2023, Star Citizen released an Alpha version. People have been playing that Alpha version for now.
Star Citizen cost $415 million to make, which is $215 million more than Starfield. It may be mind-boggling, but it is true. Star Citizen took almost half a billion to make. The best part is that it is still in development. So the number might increase in the future.

How Could Star Citizen Bear Such A Cost?
$415 million is not a small amount of money. The production team could not bear such a cost. So, they started crowdfunding campaigns. It was hugely successful, and they raised tons of money from it. Cloud Imperium Games raised more than $300 million from the crowdfunding campaigns. Apart from that, there were also private investments that raised it to the mentioned amount of money.
Star Citizen Alpha is playable, but it feels very incomplete. Both Starfield and Star Citizen are stars. Yet Starfield is less in budget but shines brighter, while Star Citizen is more in budget, but it is taking forever to shine. The ultimate question remains whether it will ever reach its full brightness.
