The Marvels, set to release in November 2022 finally has some confirmed actors. The upcoming Captain Marvel sequel’s title is The Marvels instead of Captain Marvel 2. This solo MCU movie is set to broaden the spotlight to other superheroes. Just like the sequel Antman and the Wasp, The Marvels will introduce a partnership between superheroes. The Human-Kree Hybrid, Carol Danvers will be united with two more Marvel-themed heroes.
Directed by Candyman’s Nia DaCostaritten and written by Megan McDonnell, who previously penned two of WandaVision’s episodes. Varying from obvious to unexpected, here are 5 of the confirmed actors set to appear in this highly anticipated movie.
Brie Larson
Returning as Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson is set to play one of the most powerful Avengers yet again. While putting an end to her weekly content on Youtube, Larson is gearing up to play her role as Captain Marvel.
By the end of the first movie, Carol took on the great responsibility of singlehandedly protecting the whole universe. However, she can’t be present everywhere at once therefore a few helping hands will be joining her.
Iman Vellani
Iman Vellani will be continuing her role as Kamala Khan from the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. The series will revolve around the teenage superhero, Kamala, and her origin as she acquires shape-shifting abilities. The series will directly lead to The Marvels. Iman will be joining Larson as a supporting actor. According to the comics, Carol is Kamala’s childhood idol and her inspiration to become a superhero.
Zawe Ashton
Zawe Ashton is confirmed to play a role that is yet to be disclosed. With a few wild theories, she’s expected to play any of the following characters: Moonstone, Deathbird, Korvac.
Previously seen in The Handmaid’s Tale, the Channel 4 sitcom Fresh Meat, and the Netflix horror satire Velvet Buzzsaw, Ashton has backed her highest-profile role with The Marvels.
MCU was usually accused of having a villain problem. However, with the recent addition to the franchise’s big bad gallery, characters such as Thanos, Killmonger, Agatha Harkness, He Who Remains, and Gorr The God Butcher have certainly changed the trajectory.
Park Seo-Joon
Maybe not very well known to the western audience yet, Park Seo-Joon has a pretty big name in South Korea. With super hit dramas and movies like Kill Me, Heal Me, Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, and Icheon Class, Seo Joon also made a cameo appearance in Parasite. Seo Joon has been cast in a supporting role and just like Ashton, his role is yet to be disclosed.
Teyonah Parris
WandaVision introduced some new fan-favorite supporting characters including Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, Randall Park’s Agent Woo, Kat Dennings’ Darcy Lewis, and Monica Rambeau played by Teyonah Parris. Parris got her origin story from the series and will respire her role as Monica Rambeau or her crime-fighting alter-ego Photon. Rambeau developed her energy-absorbing powers after forcefully entering Wanda’s sitcom fantasy. In the first movie, Monica was played by a child actor Akira Akbar. Young Monica idolized Carol, hence Captain Marvel will be joined by not one but two superheroes who grew up admiring her.
