Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt once held the title of Hollywood’s It couple, setting relationship goals at every red carpet event. But, when the ex-couple filed for divorce, this news came as a shock to their fans and well-wishers. The 59-year-old actor’s marriage with the Gia actress turned from a perfect union to a messy divorce.
When Jolie and Pitt filed for divorce in 2016, the internet buzzed with many people commenting on their separation. Before the couple parted ways, many Hollywood insiders like Matt Damon had many things to say about the ex-couple.
Matt Damon called Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt prisoners
Matt Damon and Brad Pitt are one of the famous buddies of Hollywood. They have been part of each other’s life for a very long time. Damon had seen his friend Pitt’s married life with Angelina Jolie very closely. Before the ex-couple parted ways, the Jason Bourne actor compared Jolie and Pitt to prisoners. While talking about the media attention the ex-couple received all the time, Damon stated,
“I have friends who are like prisoners. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for instance. They can’t just go someplace. If they go for a walk, it turns into an international incident.”
In another statement, the 52-year-old actor once again talked about the 48-year-old actress and the Bullet Train actor’s marriage and how the constant attention affects them. The Air actor said,
“If you can control the celebrity side of celebrity, then it’s worth it. I look at Brad–and I have for years–and when I’m with him I see the intensity of that other side of it and the paparazzi and the insane level of aggression they have and their willingness to break the law and invade his space–well, I wonder about that trade.”
This statement was given by Damon in 2013 before Jolie and the Troy actor parted ways. The Original Sin actress and the 59-year-old actor tied the knot in 2014 and in the year 2019, they got legally divorced.
Matt Damon explained why he is luckier than Brad Pitt
On the other side, Damon said that, unlike other celebrity couples, he was fortunate that people were not curious about his personal life. In an interview, The Bourne Identity actor remembered the time when he and the Babylon actor were discussing their children. The 52-year-old actor said,
“I remember telling him that I walk my kids to school, and his face just fell. Because he should be able to do that, too. And he can’t.”
Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso have been married since 2005. Barroso and the Stillwater actor have been married for almost 2 decades and have one daughter together. Both Damon and his wife like to keep their personal lives under wraps.
