“The guy is a total pro”: Mark Wahlberg Salutes Russell Crowe for Achieving the Impossible in Only Three Weeks for Their $56 Million Thriller

Mark Wahlberg Salutes Russell Crowe for Achieving the Impossible in Only Three Weeks for Their $56 Million Thriller

Mark Wahlberg is rarely the person who comes prepared with flowery praises and all the best anecdotes when called out to promote a film and his co-stars’ performances in it, even when required to do so. He is known for being one to never beat around the bush, handling every interview head-on, and being, without a doubt, one of the most brusque celebrities that the industry has to offer right now.

However, despite all the shortcomings when it comes to the social aspects of his fame, Wahlberg manages to stay relevant and in the spotlight due to the sheer limitlessness of his talent – whether in action, drama, comedy, or thrillers.

Mark Wahlberg Gives a First-Hand Opinion of Russell Crowe

Known as the ultimate emo bad boy of the late 90s and early 2000s, Russell Crowe‘s rugged, off-handed charm, striking blue eyes, dark brown curls, and disarming Aussie accent entranced dozens of women over the years but it was his ability to compose a melody, write poetry, and patiently listen to his partner without ever appearing affected by the world around him that made him the ultimate dream man. Or at least, that is the image the infamous Meg Ryan affair helped to carve out for the Gladiator actor.

When it comes to Mark Wahlberg though, a tabloid-breaking phenomenon and a sensational People profile is not necessary to break down the kind of a man that Russell Crowe has grown to become. In Wahlberg’s honest opinion: “The guy is a total pro” and that is that. The 2013 crime thriller project, Broken City, marked the first and only film to ever feature the pair alongside each other. Although a powerhouse duo, Wahlberg went on to find more comedy and faith in his future endeavors, leaving Crowe to weave a legacy of crime, action, and superhero movies in the decade that followed.

Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg Unite For Broken City

The neo-noir crime thriller transports the audience back to a time that presents itself like the love child of Watchmen and Road to Perdition. Filled with unchecked injustice on the streets, an ex-policeman out to right some wrongs, and a Mayor willing to go to extraordinary lengths to win his re-election, the plot of Broken City represents just what the film’s title tritely suggests. On the other hand, the filming of the movie displayed some brilliant originality on Russell Crowe’s part, as later divulged by his co-star, Mark Wahlberg, during an interview with HeyUGuys:

The first scene we shot was that big confrontation between me and [Russell Crowe] at his home office and we just dove right in. The guy is a total pro. I mean, he had so much dialogue in the movie and he had only 3 weeks to shoot his entire role and the guy was just on top of it like nobody I had ever seen.

The hefty compliments don’t come often and too easily from Mark Wahlberg and despite already establishing himself as a veteran and a master at his own craft since his Ridley Scott days, hearing Wahlberg’s experience about working with the actor adds an extra layer of appreciation for the kind of professional that he is.
