With the Disney-Fox merger, we will finally see the Marvel heroes under the 20th century Fox banner migrate to MCU. Teams like the Fantastic Four are going to return to the mothership. But the on superhero team we are looking forward to in the MCU are the mutant X-Men team. While there aren’t any plans in the foreseeable future for seeing the X-Men, we believe a cancelled Fox called The Gifted could hold the answer. There’s a very solid reason why we believe The Gifted could bring the X-Men to the MCU via a series much more effectively than in a movie.
Loki Has Proven Even A Show Could Affect The Larger MCU As A Whole
Nobody thought Loki of all places would be the series which would signal the rise of the Multi-Verse. Jonathan Majors’ Kang will be the next big bad wolf to take over the supervillain mantle after Thanos. The events that transpire in Loki have far-reaching consequences in the larger MCU timeline. Even WandaVision‘s ending affects how things turn out in Doctor Strange 2. Earlier, Marvel used to keep the shows and movies separate. What happened in Netflix’s Daredevil or in the Agents of SHIELD series has no effect on the movie chronology whatsoever.
That is not the case now. Marvel Studios has understood that a show can be just as significant in establishing critical events in the timeline. The Gifted could benefit from this recent change in ideologies in Marvel Studios. Should the powers that be will it, The Gifted could introduce the mutants as a minority species that have been fighting for their rights for too long now. It’s only now that the world is hearing. Or they could be results of government experimentation who are now starting to speak up. In both cases, they could keep both The Gifted and the MCU timelines intact. Since the multiverse has come into play, it would be easy to bring them to the original timeline.
The Gifted Is Set In a timeline To Avoid Clashing With MCU & X-Men Movies
This was recently confirmed by the creator of The Gifted – Matt Nix. Nix said that the show is set up in such a way it will not affect the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier, Disney and Fox allowed all characters of Marvel Comics to co-exist in their own separate universes. But it was with The Gifted that things started changing. Nix created The Gifted by setting it outside the X-Men movies. Since it is in an another timeline, it also does not affect the MCU in any manner.
In an interview with Comicbook,com, Nix was heard saying:
“In The Gifted, we were really doing kind of this offshoot, right,” Matt Nix explained. “Originally the whole thing for that show was, ‘you must stay out of the way of the movies. You are not allowed to touch on the movies.'”
He added:
“I was just the guy that came in with the best idea for staying out of the way of the movies, which was, ‘Hey, remember in Days of Future Past how they go back in time and then there’s an anti-mutant dystopia in the future and then in this time, it looks like our time?'”
Nix said he managed to find a loophole around that obstacle:

The Gifted – Gateway To The X-Men-Verse For Marvel Studios
Since set outside the X-Men and the MCU movies, The Gifted has no connection to Marvel Studios:
“Just give me the years in between, and then my show will get erased, it doesn’t matter, It doesn’t touch your movie timeline, because it’s the timeline you erased. So just give me that, and then I’ll do that, and I’ll sort of show how mutants came to be oppressed, and then I can stay out of the way of the movies.”
The Gifted could be a legit good way to bring the X-Men to the MCU via a series, not a movie.
