As The Flash is finally concluding with its ninth season, Grant Gustin will drop the mantle after portraying the role of the Scarlet Speedster for almost a decade. The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace believes that Grant Gustin will be remembered as the Flash for this generation.
As he kept sharing his love for the character and the show, Wallace also shared his excitement about the upcoming untitled Black Superman project. While reflecting on the legacy of Christopher Reeves’ Superman, the showrunner shared that he is open to the upcoming iterations of the character.
The Flash boss shared his excitement for the Black Superman project
The Black Superman project has its root connected with the old regime and is one of the few projects that are moving forward after the change in DC’s leadership. And it appears that CW’s The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace is excited about Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Val-Zod adaptation.
While sharing his thoughts on Grant Gustin’s iteration of the scarlet speedster and comparing his legacy with Christopher Reeves’s Superman, Wallace shared his feelings about Coates’ project. In the interview with TVLine, Wallace stressed that he is excited about the upcoming Black Superman project and he can’t wait for its debut on the big screens. He went on to state,
“Grant [Gustin] will always be the Flash for a certain generation in the same way that for my generation Christopher Reeve was Superman. That doesn’t mean I’m not excited to see Michael B. Jordan play a Black Superman, I can’t wait for that”
The Black Superman project has been under development since 2021 and is one of the few projects from the old regime that will be moving forward in James Gunn’s envisioned DC. But it appears that the movie will not be under the new DCU, but will be its own thing and exist under the banner of DC Elseworlds.
The Black Superman project is going to be an Elseworlds project for DC
After the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helms of DC, the duo was adamant about scrapping the old scattered universe and starting a cohesive one. But apart from shaping their new DCU, James Gunn and Peter Safran also stressed the importance of Elseworlds stories.
And it appears that along with Matt Reeves,’ The Batman and Todd Philips’ Joker, Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Superman will be getting the same hospitality. These projects are going to be released under the label of DC Elseworlds and they will be allowed to tell their stories without any hindrance from the studios.
Peter Safran also stated that the bar for the projects to attain a spot under the DC Elseworlds label is very high. So it’s reasonable to assume that the duo is confident about the Black Superman project, which reportedly includes Michael B. Jordan at its forefront.
The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace seems to be excited about the future iterations of both Flash and Superman. And even though there hasn’t been any confirmation whether the Black Superman project is going to be a series or a feature-length film, it seems that the studio is confident about Ta-Nehisi Coates’ take on the character.
No release date for the Black Superman project has been made official.
