With the reboot of the DCU by James Gunn, the future of DC looks bright and with the upcoming projects, fans are stoked to see in which direction James Gunn is heading to, and the first movie of the James Gunn era would be The Flash starring Ezra Miller.
The upcoming movie is loosely adapted to the Flashpoint comics, and the plot of the movie focuses on Barry Allen changing the timeline by altering the events that occurred in the past. A Twitter page shared a new teaser that shows more footage from the movie, and more than 5 variants of the speedster.
What Can We see in the New Teaser?
In a teaser shared by Home of DCU on Twitter, exactly at 00:14 seconds, there was an explosion, and the screen was filled with the Flash’s lightning but fans could see not one, not two but possibly seven variants of Barry Allen.
Since the movie is based on the Flashpoint comics and in the trailers we can see that the movie takes place in an alternative universe, and as per James Gunn, this movie would set in an alternate universe and it would go on to reset the DC Universe, there is a high possibility that we can see multiple variants of Barry Allen, and chances are there would be more than two speedsters in the movie.
The Flash Variant Theory
The Flash variant theory is one of the most popular concepts in the DC Comics universe which showcases the idea of a multiverse, leading to the existence of alternate variations of Barry Allen. The alternate versions are called ‘variants’ that possess different abilities and personalities as compared to the original Flash.
According to the Flash Variant theory, if Barry Allen runs at an incredible speed, then he can create a rift in space and time, that will create an alternate reality. The variants are a result of different circumstances, that have led to unique traits and abilities. Even though all of the variants have different abilities and traits, they are easily recognizable.
It is amusing to see that the upcoming movie will be showcasing this concept and fans would possibly be able to witness new and interesting variants of Barry Allen, where each of them will have a different perspective leading to some laughs or serious moments.
Some Notable Variants of Barry Allen Who Might Appear in the Movie
Wally West is one of the most popular variants of Barry Allen, and the character was introduced to the readers as the nephew of the original Flash in the comic book. Wally West had an interesting origin story, in the comic West was struck by lightning which helped him possess superhuman speed like his uncle, Barry Allen. However, in the comics, Barry Allen dies, and Wally West takes his place, eventually becoming one of the most iconic variants of the speedster.
Bart Allen is born in the future when the Flash had already retired, the kid had inherited Bary Allen, his grandfather’s superhuman speed. The kid was unable to control his powers and he often accelerated at super speed. In order to protect Bart Allen’s life, Iris West-Allen took the kid back in time to put him under Wally West’s care, who was the current Flash of the past.
Jay Garrick was the original speedster who was introduced all the way back in the 1940s in the comics. Garrick possessed a traditional superhero costume and a different set of powers as compared to Barry Allen, his powers included flight and manipulating the air around him.
The Flash will release in theatres on 16th June 2023.
