Talking to the outlet he stated that the MCU star was “the first and only person” he spoke to regarding the role.

He also mentioned his sincerity toward his project.

“He took this character to heart. It was an unbelievably challenging piece.”

Holland on the other side has been searching for a project like Edward Norton’s 1996 legal drama Primal Fear. He shared,

“My agent called me up and said, ‘This guy, Akiva Goldsman, would like to talk to you,'” adding “‘It sounds like your dreams are coming true.'”

With opportunity knocking at his door, he instantly grabbed the role! The rest is history. He also serves as an executive producer in the series.

The showrunner further talked about the continuous shoots they did in New York during the COVID pandemic. However, Holland kept on moving forward and stayed committed to the role. Goldsman has nothing but praise for the lead star.

“We shot 130 days in a row. In New York. During COVID. And Tom held the center of it in a way that makes the piece work because he’s so compassionate and compelling and his conviction in the role is extraordinary. I’m excited for him, because I don’t think people have seen him this way.”

Based on the 1981 novel The Minds of Billy Milligan, the series revolves around Holland’s character, Danny who is arrested for a shooting at the Rockefeller Center in 1979. As he is investigated by Ryan Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried), he gets to understand more about himself.

As per Holland,

“It’s a story about heartbreak. It’s a story about love. It’s a story about betrayal. And, most of all, it’s a story about a young kid’s determination to survive.”

While he was able to completely immerse himself into the role, he faced difficulty in managing his character out of his personal life. After wrapping up the series, he has announced to take a year-long break from acting to focus on his mental health.

Meanwhile, the series’ first three episodes have already been premiered on Apple TV+ on June 9.
