Brad Pitt is one of the most established actors the world has ever seen. The American actor has multiple awards under his belt including two Academy awards which have further solidified his status as one of the best actors in Hollywood. Pitt first rose to fame for his role as Ridley Scott in the movie Thelma & Louise back in 1991. The actor has been in the industry for more than 3 decades now and has dropped many blockbusters.
There are only a few actors in the world that one can compare to Brad Pitt’s fame and stardom and Tom Cruise is one of those names. Although the two legends do not share a friendly relationship as such, there is also no rivalry between them. That was until Pitt allegedly took a dig at Cruise’s work in Valkyrie.
Brad Pitt once described his relationship with Tom Cruise
Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise worked together in the movie Interview with the Vampire back in 1994. As one would expect from a movie that contains both Pitt and Cruise, it blew up at the box office and received great reviews from fans and critics. Although the two stars looked great together in the movie, the stars did not get so close even after doing a movie together.
After the release of the movie, Pitt described his relationship with Tom Cruise. He said, “You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions. He’s the North Pole. I’m South.” The actor further added that there was always a sort of tension between the two on the set as well. He said,
“I always thought there was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real coversation. It wasn’t nasty by any means, not at all. But it was just there and it bugged me a bit. But I’ll tell you, he catches a lot of shit because he’s on top, but he’s a good actor and he advances in the film. He did it. I mean, you have to respect that“
However, Pitt allegedly made a low blow after he criticized Cruise’s work in Valkyrie in 2009.
Interview with the Vampire is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
The Fight Club actor made some degrading comments about Tom Cruise’s movie, Valkyrie
Tom Cruise portrayed the role of a German Colonel in the movie Valkyrie who tried to assassinate Adolf Hitler during World War 2. In 2009, Quentin Tarantino made the movie, Inglourious Basterds with a similar plot line to Valkyrie starring Brad Pitt. The movie turned out to be a huge success and earned almost $321.5 million in theaters worldwide. After the release of his movie, Pitt allegedly took a dig at Valkyrie and said,
“It was a ridiculous movie. The Second World War could still deliver more stories and films, but I believe that Quentin put a cover on that pot. With Basterds, everything that can be said to this genre has been said. The film destroys every symbol. The work is done, end of story.“
When these quotes started making headlines a lot, Pitt cleared the air around the topic through his spokesperson and said that his words were being taken out of context and he has not even the World War 2 movie starring Tom Cruise.
Valkyrie is currently streaming on Apple TV and Inglourious Basterds is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
