This competitive spirit between the two stars may have diminished by now, but in 2009, it was definitely on fire. As per reports, Brad Pitt once made a snide comment on Tom Cruise’s high-grossing film. The actor had allegedly remarked Cruise’s 2008 movie, Valkyrie. In the movie, Tom Cruise played the role of a German soldier who attempted to wound the then-leader Hitler and his Nazi party.

Coincidently, eight months down the line, director Quentin Tarantino also released a movie with a similar plot named Inglourious Basterds. In the movie, Brad Pitt also played the role of a soldier who tried to hurt Hitler and his Nazi party.

Brad Pitt shared some unkind words for Cruise’s movie, Valkyrie in an interview with the German magazine Stern in 2009. The Bullet Train actor said,

“It was a ridiculous movie. The Second World War could still deliver more stories and films, but I believe that Quentin put a cover on that pot.”

Pitt also shared his belief that Inglourious Basterds offered a perfect fresh take on the World War 2 subgenre of films. He said,

“With Basterds, everything that can be said to this genre has been said. The film destroys every symbol. The work is done, end of the story.”

The actor’s comment had gone viral at the time, due to which Pitt had to later clarify his statement, saying that he was misquoted. Pitt’s spokesperson shared in the media that he had not even seen the movie Valkyrie, hence his comment was not accurate.

Brad Pitt shared his experience of working with Tom Cruise on the sets of Interview with the Vampire, where he revealed that both actors are poles apart. He stated,

“You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions. He’s North Pole. I’m South. He’s coming at you with a handshake [Pitt mimicked Cruise’s hyper-aggressive hello] where I may bump into you, I may not, you know?”

As per reports, the actors had an opportunity to work together again for the popular film Ford v Ferrari in 2019. However, things did not work out due to budget constraints.
