Matt Damon is coming back on the big screen with a great star-studded cast in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. He has continued to work on several great projects which all started when he got his big break from Good Will Hunting. He rose to further stardom as a leading man by portraying Jason Bourne in the Bourne franchise.
Matt Damon Confessed to Using F-Slur
He shared at the time,
“The word that my daughter calls the ‘f-slur for a homosexual’ was commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application.”
Sharing that he once made a joke in front of his daughter which she took way too seriously that she got upset with what he did.
He continued,
“I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter.”
For the unversed, Damon tied the knot with Luciana Barroso in 2005, with the duo sharing four daughters. One of the daughters was the one who called him out for using an offensive term.
“She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You!’ She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, ‘I retire the f-slur!’ I understood.”
However, his inappropriate remark didn’t fit well with fans who bashed him for using it. Soon after that, he denied using that word in his personal life in his follow-up interview.
Matt Damon Clarified That He Never Used F-Slur
Though he clarified that the word was casually used in the film, Stuck on You but he was proud that his daughter was “extremely articulate about the extent to which that word would have been painful to someone in the LGBTQ+ community regardless of how culturally normalized it was.”
In his interview, he claimed that his homophobic remarks were not used in his personal life. He is set to appear in Oppenheimer which will release in theatres on July 21, 2023.
